SELF CHECK-IN, CLEAN, PRIVATE OASIS. Restored 1812 log cabin on gorgeous 273 acre farm along the KY River. Serene & natural setting, close to several popular BOURBON TRAIL sites and horse farms. 10 MIN to WOODFORD RESERVE and CASTLE & KEY distilleries. 8 MIN to STAVE Restaurant and Bourbon Bar. Scenic horse farms (ASHFORD, SUN VALLEY, WINSTAR). Convenient to KEENELAND, KY HORSE PARK, Versailles, Midway, Frankfort, Lexington, Louisville! Hike, bike, fish, llamas, goats, sheep, wildlife, firepit. The Cottage has had a long 5 STAR history on AirBnB with its wonderful previous owners Paul & Lindy Huber. PLEASE SEE SOME OF THE MOST RECENT REVIEWS included at the end of the photo section.... Seldom Scene Farm in Woodford County is a uniquely beautiful place. The cottage is an amazing one-of-a-kind and very private residence, set across from a llama, sheep and goat pasture with views of the Kentucky River Palisades! Surprises await as you enter through the hand-crafted door, made from rich heart pine, sourced from the original log cabin's walls and floors. The walls are gorgeous original hand-hewn logs, beadboard, and shiplap, which continue into the spacious 1100 sq. feet of living area, bedrooms and bath. Decor is comfortable and serene, modern-rustic with authentic horse and bourbon memorabilia. Our guests (many repeats) love the comfortable, soothing space as well as the outdoor beauty, and many have said it has exceeded their expectations and they wished they'd planned to stay longer! Amenities include free WIFI, side patio with pergola, fire pit with wood included, charcoal grill, A/C, quartz and copper kitchen counters in new fully-equipped kitchen (range, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, original artwork, photography and fiber art by the owner, reclaimed heart pine cabinetry, on-demand "instant" hot water, roomy bathroom with heated floors and tiled shower, spring water, a king and queen memory foam beds (air mattress or couch available for up to 2 additional guests for a total of 6), Smart TV, keyless entry, electric fireplace, washer/dryer. A great value with generous amenities and comfortable for families, two couples, or a small group, but singles and couples have enjoyed the privacy and solitude as well. The cottage is all on one level, with the exception of one of the bedrooms, which has one step up into it and two small steps from the room down into the bathroom. We are only the third property owners since it was originally deeded to the Watts family in the Virginia Land Grant. The cottage previously went through a year-long renovation/reconstruction by a master carpenter who specializes in historic properties. One room of the original cabin (making up one of the bedrooms) has been dated to the early 1800's! The original owner was pictured here at the farm in the May, 1974 issue of National Geographic in a feature on the Bluegrass Region (you can see it in the cottage, in the album about the history/renovation). Most of the farm is wooded and left natural and ungroomed for wildlife (deer, wild turkeys, songbirds, foxes, coyotes, owls, wood ducks, bobcats, raccoons), and we have several conservation projects with native grasses and wildflowers. The kitchen is fully-equipped and cooking-friendly, with full stove, pots and pans, toaster, blender, microwave, and spices. It is also stocked with coffee, tea, cream, sugar and snacks. A few of Kentucky’s very best restaurants are just 5-20 minutes away on spectacularly beautiful roads. We enjoy sharing the beauty of the farm and Central Kentucky with others, and are proud and excited about the preservation and rebirth of the original cabin. You may access the entire 273 acres. We have fishing poles available for your use at our small stocked pond, or on the Kentucky River! (at your own risk and license is required on the river) Hike on our trails, visit with the animals, feed the chickens, etc. We have two playful goats (Bingo and Tingo) and two curious llamas, that stay with the sheep in the pasture and barn right across from the cottage. This is NOT a typical “farm stay” or petting zoo. You are renting the cottage, and seeing the animals and enjoying the additional acreage is a bonus. Most guests truly appreciate the solitude, freedom and peace that the farm provides, while others are happy to enjoy bourbon or horse farm tours looking forward to a comfortable private place to return to. The farm is west of Lexington and south of Frankfort in beautiful Woodford County, 15 minutes from Versailles, Midway and Frankfort. It is VERY convenient to several bourbon distilleries and horse farms, as well as The Stave Restaurant and Bourbon Bar in nearby Millville! It will seem far the first time you come, but you will have little to no traffic and the drive is gorgeous! Our neighborhood is extremely rural, beautiful, safe, quiet and private. The nearby roads are very popular for cycling and sightseeing. Some of the world's most famous horse farms are just a few miles away, including Ashford Stud, home of Triple Crown winning thoroughbreds American Pharoah and Justify. The Bourbon Trail's popular Woodford Reserve Distillery and Castle and Key Distillery (previously Old Taylor) are quite close, as are Glenn’s Creek, Wild Turkey, Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, and more. Our private lane, road and trails are lovely for walking and jogging. The farm feels extremely remote, but we are just 15-20 minutes from great restaurants and shopping. The Kentucky Horse Park is 35-40 minutes away, Keeneland Racecourse and the Lexington-Bluegrass Airport is 30 minutes, Versailles and Midway are 15 minutes Lexington is 35 minutes, the Kentucky State Capitol and Frankfort restaurants and pubs are 20 minutes, and Louisville is 60 minutes. Some other favorite nearby attractions include Midway (great galleries, antique shops and boutiques and amazing restaurants), Salato Nature Center in Frankfort, Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary, Life Adventure Center of the Bluegrass, and the beautiful Kentucky State Capitol. Some guests have recently enjoyed the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum. Let us know your interests and we'll try to guide you the best we can! You will need a car. There is some public transportation in Lexington and Frankfort. Taxi, Lyft and Uber are also available in the area, but you should plan well in advance. We have an electric gate along our paved driveway that is usually kept closed. You will be provided with a gate code, as well as a code for the cottage door, with lighted keyless entry. There is plenty of parking directly in front of the cottage for two cars.
