Steeped in history, Humble is located in northeast Harris County, Texas, within the Houston metropolitan area. Oil was first discovered in Humble in 1904. By 1905, it contained the largest producing oilfield in Texas. The Humble Oil and Refining Company (now ExxonMobil) was formed by local entrepreneurs in 1911. Prior to the oil boom, Humble was also a major center for the commercial timber industry. Today, Greater Humble is home to a diverse array of business, retail and residential areas and is considered the commercial, economic and social hub for Northeast Harris County. Downtown Humble, also known as "Old Humble,” maintains its original small-town feel, with many of its homes and buildings dating back to the mid-1800s. Many of these, like our bungalow on Main Street, have been maintained and renovated to preserve the neighborhood's historic charm. Within walking and biking distance of the bungalow are shops, restaurants, churches, a city park with pool and tennis courts, the historic Humble Cemetery and much more. The Humble Museum is two blocks away, as is the beautifully renovated Charles Bender Performing Arts Center. Built in 1929, the building formerly served as Humble’s first high school. The Humble Civic Center Complex, a popular event venue nearby, hosts the annual Humble Rodeo, a prelude to the famous Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in February. Other annual events include the Humble Christmas Parade, which can be viewed from the bungalow's front porch, and the Good Oil Days Festival in April. Onsite parking in our private driveway is adjacent to the bungalow, as is street parking in front of the home. Uber and Lyft are available as well. Two Park and Ride hubs offer service from the Humble and Kingwood area to the Downtown Houston Central Business District in the morning and afternoon.
