Accommodations: This beautiful, airy condominium (approximately 1,000 square feet of living space) is furnished as a complete vacation home. Lofty beamed ceilings accent the living area with its two sitting areas and comfortable dining alcove. The surrounding greenery lends a peaceful air. Our "Hale" (home) features a master bedroom with king sized bed and a huge walk-in closet. Full tiled bath with large soaking tub/shower and granite counter and double sinks. There are two comfortable lanais, one off the living room/dining area, and the other off the master bedroom. This affords you a choice of shade or sun as the day unfolds. The kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, range-oven, dinnerware, small appliances, and pots and pans. There is a washer and dryer. Beach gear for your use includes beach towels, beach chairs & mats and sand toys. Sleeper sofa bed and an inflatable single bed available upon request. The home also features premium channel color TV, DVD and CD players, and high speed wireless internet access and private phones. The bedroom and living areas have ceiling fans to augment the island's dependable, gentle trade winds. Sip your morning coffee on the covered lanai and check out the waves for the day's surfing prospects, or watch the beautiful island sunsets over a glass of wine. The prestigious Poipu-Kai resort situated on the South Shore of Kauai, features 70 acres of tropical gardens. It is just a short walk through the resort grounds to Shipwreck beach or Poipu Beach Park (a snorkeler's paradise). The resort has nine tennis courts. There is a shop for all your tennis needs, including rentals. After the game relax in one of the Jacuzzi spas or swimming pools. You can barbecue your "catch of the day" in one of the well maintained grills near the pool. Kauai Beaches: Poipu Kai resort fronts on two well known beaches... Shipwreck Beach and Brennecke Beach, each an excellent bodysurfing beach. Next to Brennecke beach is Poipu Beach Park, rated the best beach in North America for four years running. It features a sheltered "baby beach" for toddlers and parents, and a great snorkeling and swimming beach with every variety of tropical fish usually only seen in aquariums. Surfing is also an excellent option at Poipu Beach with a surf shop and board rentals just across the street from the beach. Try paddle boarding, it's the latest sensation! Kauai Restaurants: Brennecke's restaurant is a great place for lunch or dinner at the beach; good burgers, fish and drinks. They have a great crab meal for dinner. Don't forget Lapperts' ice cream for a real treat. It's fresh made in Hanapepe and definitely a landmark destination. They are located throughout the island: Hanapepe, Poipu (just a couple of miles from the house),Kapa'a, Princeville, Hanalei, etc. Island activities: For the shoppers there are some very nice boutiques in the Poipu Village shopping center just West on Poipu Road. There are also boutique shops at the surrounding resorts, e.g., Hyatt, Sheraton and the Marriott. Food shopping is nearby at the Big Save supermarket in Koloa, just a couple of miles up the bypass road. If you are energetic and want some exercise Kauai offers a great series of hikes and drives, some with breathtaking views. Try the hike along the beach and cliffs east past the Hyatt. It is about 4 miles and the reward is a wonderful white sand beach. There is a spectacular hike/drive up the Waimea Canyon (the grand canyon of the Pacific). At the end of the road hike the trail about 4 miles which will take you to a lookout over the Na Pali Coast. Also refer to the Kauai Guide Book located in the house for more fun things to do. We recommend that our guests secure a rental car for their vacation. Public transportation is minimal on Kauai, though it is getting better. We can send a link that can save you considerably on car rentals. GUESTS WILL BE REQUESTED TO FILL OUT A RENTAL AGREEMENT LISTING THE NAMES OF ALL STAYING AT THE HOME. Extended stays may require an additional charge for a mid-stay clean. Our holiday season extends from Dec. 17- Jan. 6 with a one week minimum stay (2 week minimum if the stay includes both holidays). We divide the season into two periods with some flexibility on dates and length of stay. For the first week (Christmas) we ask our guests to arrange their departure date to fall between Dec. 26 and Dec. 28.
