Only blocks from where the Obama family vacations. Minutes drive to Aikahi Safeway ( 20 minute, 0.9 mile walk). Short drive or bike ride to laid back Kailua Town ( 35 minute, 1.7 mile walk), with supermarkets, Wholefoods, variety of good restaurants and local foods, Starbucks, surf shops, kayak rentals, and more. ( Lanikai Beach is also a short drive away.) We are kid friendly, and Kailua Beach is a great place to enjoy with kids. Convenient to Windward beaches. The closest Windward beaches are Kailua, Lanikai , Bellows, Waimanalo and Makapuu. A scenic drive, or bus ride, up the Windward Coast will get you to Oahu's North Shore, known for its winter surf and summer swimming. Our home is a few minutes walk to a bus stop (Kaha St. stop). The Bus takes you to Kailua Town, then continues to downtown Honolulu (45 minutes), near the Iolani Palace and State capitol. From the airport we are only a twenty-five minute drive by car on the H3. However, by bus, the trip from the airport may take up to two hours because it requires a transfer in downtown Honolulu. Luggage that does not fit on your lap is not allowed on The Bus. Food shopping maybe difficult without a rental car because the nearest grocery store is about a 20 minute walk from our house. If you need a car for a day or two, there is an Enterprise Rent-a-car in Kailua Town, on Hamakua Drive, which can pick you up and drop you off at our house free of charge. (However, they do not provide airport pickup or dropoff.) We have a friendly dog and a cat. Your place is off-limits to the pets, but they may try to sneak over. There is free cable TV and high speed internet service. We have masks and snorkels, boogie boards, a cooler, sand toys and beach towels available. Lots of children's books, too. There is a charcoal grill in your back yard and your own outdoor table and chairs. The house is NOT equipped with air conditioning...we rely on shade trees, open windows and fans to keep cool.
