Come enjoy the Kona ocean views, and experience our stunning sunsets from your huge lanai. This quiet, large home is conveniently located in town, about a mile from Ali'i beaches and 5 mins to shopping and downtown areas. PLEASE NOTE: All bookings are subject to Hawaii Occupancy Tax @ 17.962% (comprised of 10.25% State Transient Accommodation + 3% County Transient Accommodation + 4.7120% General Excise Tax). This full upstairs home (there is a separate/private downstairs "Ohana" apartment listing for 31+ night stays), lovingly referred to as the "PuPu Palace," is over 1600 square feet, with a high vaulted ceiling open-living room/kitchen, three large bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom and larger guest room both have King sized foam beds. The second guest bedroom has a Queen sized foam bed. And be sure to enjoy the super-fast WiFi while you relax anywhere in the house. The house gets its name (PuPu is pidgin for"appetizer") from the massive, fully-featured kitchen with an LPG (gas) range/oven, full-sized fridge, dishwasher, 1200W inverter microwave, toaster, coffee maker and rice-cooker/steamer, as well as all the pots, pans, kitchenware, utensils, silverware, mugs and glasses you need to create and serve your own PuPus and meals. The kitchen and living room both open up to a full-length, screened lanai to enjoy the view of Kailua Bay, free from the obstruction of doors or windows. As with any open, tropical-style house like this, all cooling is via ample ceiling and free-standing fans - there is NO AIR CONDITIONING (AC). There are beds for up to 6 people. Two more people can be accommodated on a provided blow-up Queen sized bed and/or individual sleeping pads, for an additional $40 per person, per night. Max occupancy is 8 people total. Children over 2 are included in the total count. A high-chair and mini-crib are available (38"/50lb max) for setup on request. Upon booking you will get access to my Big Island List! I keep it updated with things to do, places to eat, beaches to see and fun to be had. Guest will have access to all upstairs living space, except the garage (only in case of emergency or directed access). There is driveway parking available. Please enjoy my delicious mangoes from the tree in the backyard when they're in season and available (normally April through July)! There is also a green orange tree and some other edible fruits in the backyard. Pineapples are a fragile, precious and slow-growing commodity, however, so please do not pick or otherwise molest them. Your keys will be in a lock-box when you arrive, and if you happen to need anything purchased on your behalf, and made available to you when you arrive (water, food, etc), please message me a few days before you land, and I should be able to accommodate your request. You will have your space entirely to yourself, but I'm always just a message away. I have great friends who live less than 1/2 mile away who take care of the the house and cleaning, and are available outside of normal business hours to help with any minor issues that might come up. I also have backup/on-call property management and maintenance services available if necessary (additional fees may apply for some requests). Should someone be staying downstairs in my Ohana apartment while you are staying in the main house upstairs, they will be adhering to the same rules that you are. Feel free to say 'hi' as you share some of my mangoes or watch the sunset! This is a beautiful and quiet upscale Kona town neighborhood. We are a close-knit community who keep an eye out for each other, and make sure the neighborhood stays safe. Feel secure in knowing that you will be visiting one of the most desirable areas to stay in town. There are two nearby parks with children's play equipment. The immediate neighborhood also has well maintained sidewalks and street lights for taking walks at night and early in the morning, which I recommend to avoid the heat. Regardless of how safe any neighborhood is, criminals do tend to target rental vehicles. Avoid being a victim of theft; do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle anywhere you park it during your visit. Rental cars are really a necessity on the Big Island. There are local taxi services available to get you around, or drop you downtown to grab some libations safely. As of March 2017, Lyft and Uber now operate in Kailua-Kona and Hilo! It is a 5 minute drive to the downtown tourist areas, and about the same to the major shopping districts and malls around town, which include stores like Macy's, Target, Kmart, Walmart, Ross and Sports Authority as well as major food and drug outlets such as Safeway, KTA, Foodland and Longs Drugs. It is roughly a 1 mi./20 minute (steep) downhill walk to Ali'i drive, and several nearby beaches and foot access routes. IMPORTANT: All bookings include the Hawaii Occupancy Tax @ 17.962% (comprised of 10.25% State Transient Accommodation + 3% County Transient Accommodation + 4.7120% General Excise Tax). HAWAII COUNTY RESTRICTIONS: - Quiet hours shall be from 9:00pm to 8:00am, during which time the noise from the rental shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors - Sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area - Guest vehicles shall be parked in the designated onsite parking area - The STVR (short term vacation rental) shall not be used for commercial purposes There are TVs with BASIC CABLE in the living room and master bedroom only. The living room TV also has a smart DVD/BD player. Rentals are also available from Redbox locations at Safeway, KTA and Walmart. Both the living room and master bedroom TVs are also connected to Chromecast devices, so you can stream video and audio content to them from your mobile device, tablet or laptop (Chrome browser only). You can search for "Chromecast" or "Goo gle Home" to download the "Goo gle Home" app from the Play Store, or iTunes for your device/platform. Apple users can also install Home, or look for apps called "Allcast" (free) or "Cinch for Chromecast" ($5) to play their iTunes content. There is VERY FAST cable internet (300Mbps!), and GREAT mesh WiFi signal throughout the house and premises. Newer devices can enjoy faster 802.11ac/ WiFi 6 speeds. I am unable to offer anything other than basic instructions on how to connect to the WiFi. If you are having problems with your devices during your stay, I do contract with a professional who can take care of your IT support needs, and I can bill you for his hourly costs. There is a cordless VoIP phone you can use for free local and long distance calls to the US and Canada. It is tied to my house address for E911 services in case of emergency (i.e. calling 911 does work). The cesspool that serves my home ONLY tolerates (septic-safe) toilet paper, human waste, and NOTHING else. Should there be a plumbing emergency due to flushing other paper, foreign objects or feminine products, you will liable for the pumping fees, which can cost several thousand dollars, on average.
