Besides the most active volcano, the Big Island is also the location of the world's largest volcano (Mauna Loa), and from base to peak, the world's tallest volcano (Mauna Kea). Come see shat Hawaii life is all about. The nature here is absolutely amazing. Your Ohana includes a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee pot (coffee included), and all of your dinnerware needs (real, not plastic). All towels, bedding and bathroom essentials are also provided. You have a separate lanai for you to enjoy the beautiful sun or stars, and feel the breeze of the trade winds. There is an outside gas grill, a large countertop oven (large enough for a regular size pizza) and two portable stove burners available for cooking (pans/utensils available) . Feel free to explore the property with many varieties of tropical plants and fruit trees. The Lilikoi was built 2017 with high end finishes. I live in the main house with three very friendly and happy dogs. Smoking is only allowed outside (please be respectful of others if nearby).Your Ohana has one queen bed. If you have more people, we have a two bedroom suite, and a King bedroom master suite in the main house (both with private entrance, private bath and no shared space) that is available to rent. The trade winds bring a light refreshing breeze, so air conditioning is rarely needed; however, we have a portable unit available to rent for $15 a night. You have your very own lanai with chairs and side table to enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of Hawaii. I am happy to socialize, but will not impose on you. I know what it's like to be on vacation and want to be left alone. Please feel free to tell me to get lost (no offense taken!) :) There are so many amazing things to do in this area of the island. It is a very convenient 25 minute drive from the Hilo Airport and downtown area. See the awesome power of the Kilauea volcano. We are very close to the trailhead that leads hikers to beautiful and secluded Shipman's Beach ( Amazing spot for turtles - see pictures) or explore the cliffs at nearby Mukuu Point (2 mi). Explore the nearby towns of Kea'au (10 mi), Pahoa (10 mi), and Volcano Village (30 mi) for shopping and local delights, or experience Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, and the Boiling Pots, or Lava Tree State parks. There are several weekly and monthly events you can enjoy in the nearby villages. This beautifu location is just rural enough to be able to really experience nature. Enjoy Hawaii in it's true environment. Our oasis is located at the end of a well maintained 1/4 mile dirt road. Just far enough to get away from the main neighborhood road noise. It will allow you to enjoy all the wonderful sounds of the jungle without the traffic or rooster farms which can be more common than you think. You can even hear the waves crash against the cliffs on Kaloli Point. Our location may be wonderfully rural, but you can get groceries, restaurants, gas, church centrally located all within 4 miles. Within 10 miles there is Pahoa and Kea'au which have full services. Come stay where local Hawaiians get to live and the atmosphere I'd love to share with you. On your way from the airport you will pass the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Visitor Center where you can take a tour of their production facility and go to the visitor center for free samples and yummy chocolate to-go. You will also pass the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo. This free zoo has many types of tropical birds and their tigers are worth the visit by themselves. There is some bus and uber/lyft services, but regardless of where you choose to stay, I strongly recommend renting a car. There is so much to see and you're going to want to do it on your schedule without spending a fortune on uber/lyft (if you can find one). Please ask about the Turo car available here at The Lilikoi.
