You don't have to go far from North Shore lookout to find some of Maui's best hiking, biking, waterfalls, zip lines and horseback riding. There is also a wide range of agri-tourism nearby with goat cheese tasting, wine tasting, farm-to-table lunches, vodka distillery’s, a lavender farm and many others if you need a day off from Maui’s adrenaline activities. BBMP 2017/0003 North shore lookout has a Polynesian plantation feel to it that is sure to relax and rejuvenate the soul. We recently completed a full remodel in February 2017. All rooms and common areas have been designed to capture the tranquility of the land and provide privacy to our guests. Our five suites are large in size and are very private from each other. All suites have their own lanai, private baths, seating and eating areas. Our grounds feature a beautiful lava wall pool deck with lovely plantings and a serene pool and jacuzzi. We are also a working farm growing various fruits and vegetables and raising several farm animals including pigs and horses! Though we are a working farm we have all the small luxuries that make a vacation to Maui truly rejuvenating and memorable! Located on the mid-slopes of Maui’s Haleakala volcano, Makawao has one foot in its plantation past and another in its thriving arts community. This charming town was once named one of the top 25 arts destinations in the United States. Makawao is the biggest little town in the region locally known as Upcountry Maui and is famous for its Hawaiian cowboys, or paniolo. Since the late 19th century, horseback-riding paniolo have wrangled cattle in Maui’s wide-open upland fields. The Makawao Rodeo, held yearly on the Fourth of July, is Hawaii's largest paniolo competition and has been an Upcountry tradition for more than 50 years. The weekend events include a parade and traditional rodeo competitions such as barrel racing, calf roping and bareback bronco riding, all with a few Hawaiian twists. For a snack, follow the locals to get a famous cream puff from T. Komoda Store. Established in 1916 by Takezo Komoda, a Japanese plantation worker, this little store and bakery does big business. Lines can be long in the morning when everything’s fresh, so come early. The bakery is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. You can also spend the afternoon meandering through the eclectic shops, boutiques and art galleries. It’s a town of working artists, where you can watch glassblowers, wood sculptors and painters as they fulfill your order.  Makawao is also home to theHui Noeau Visual Arts Center, where visitors can take classes and explore free gallery exhibits. The combination of its paniolo heritage and its lively artistic community make Makawao a unique stop on your visit to Maui. Why we opened NSL Throughout our many travels we have made lasting relationships while staying at alternative lodging options and have been inspired by other world travelers along the way. We decide to open a bed and breakfast to providing a similar alternative accommodation where travelers can experience the beauty of Hawaii and all of its adventures while making new relationships and connecting with other travelers on a deeper level with the spirit of aloha. At North Shore Lookout our favorite meaning of aloha is "To consciously manifest life joyously in the present." With that said, our goal is to provide a place to relax and rejuvenate after your adventures and to help you find joy every day you stay with us. Aloha!
