The perfect ocean front home to relax, snorkel, surf & explore the volcanoes & waterfalls of the Big Island. Hale Iki means Little House, but how about a little house right on the ocean? Just 950 sq. ft, it is a treasured family home for over 50 years. Tropical sunsets and the wide Pacific Ocean is all yours, right out front, all day long for you to enjoy. Hale Iki means Little House, but how about a little house right on the ocean? Just 950 sq. ft, it is a treasured family home for over 50 years. Tropical sunsets and the wide Pacific Ocean is all yours, right out front, all day long for you to enjoy. Recently remodeled & updated, Hale Iki has a darling new kitchen with black sand granite countertops, ocean seaglass tile backsplash, a farmhouse kitchen sink with an ocean view, lovely new koa wood floors throughout and brand new GE appliances. The two bedrooms have wonderful new mattresses: a queen bed in the master and 2 twins in the other (a memory foam mattress topper can convert the twins to a king bed if needed). Each room has their own private bathroom attached. There's both an indoor & outdoor shower (no tub). New stacked washer & dryer in a laundry room. New TV, with Netflix/Roku, DVD/Blu-Ray player, shelves of books to read, snorkels, fins and boogie boards, +beach chairs to borrow, and a lava rock BBQ grill. The best day is spent relaxing on the lanai in chaise lounges while reading a book & bird watching, or take a road trip to see the erupting volcano, it's mildly flowing, but quite exciting. The ocean right out front might be glassy smooth for snorkeling, or if the surf's up just walk 4 houses down to Kahalu'u public beach for surfboard/SUP rentals and tasty snow-cones. Hale Iki is on a large flat lot surrounded by lawn, a very old banyan tree, a low lava rock sea wall. It is literally right on the ocean with tide pools to explore for small shells & crabs. Just 4.5 miles south from Kona town. Kona town hosts the Iron Man Tri-athalon every October, and the marathon runners sprint past Hale Iki right out front on Ali'i Drive. Our family likes to rent to happy people who can understand & respect the treasure found at Hale Iki. Many months are booked ahead year-after-year, by return renters. It's clean classic Hawaiian style living. In fact, the highest honor in Kona is to be asked if you're a "local" or Kama'aina. Sorry, there's no air conditioning, just ceiling fans in each room & fresh ocean breezes are all you need. There can be lil' green geckos scampering across the walls sometimes, but they are good luck and won't bother you. This is Hawaii and you might just love it. You may get lucky and find an open week or two to enjoy Hale Iki as your home base to explore the Big Island of Hawaii. You will want to rent a car from the airport to drive to Hale Iki. There is a bamboo gate on the entrance, you will be given the code, and you may park on the lawn. You are on your own to enjoy the big island of Hawaii. If needed, just message the host for tips, sight-seeing tips or emergencies. Please know that when we say it sleeps only 4, it's true. If you have more friends coming along, just ask them to stay nearby... Mahalo! "Holo Holo" to Walk or Travel for Fun. Many airlines fly nonstop and through Honolulu from LAX, San Francisco & San Diego to Kona (KOA) about 5-7 hrs. Be sure to reserve a rental car for your stay at Hale Iki. Try Budget, Alamo, Dollar, Enterprise or Thrifty. All of them have a 2 minute airport shuttle service to pick you up right near baggage claim. *Driving Directions: Once you exit the airport, drive south on the main Queen Kaahumanu Highway to the town of Kona, about 20 minutes. Turn right at Palani Road and drive thru Kona, turning left when you reach the ocean. Take a look at all the neat shops & restaurants along the way. You’ll be back. Follow Alii Drive south, about 5-10 minutes to mile marker 4.5. Begin looking on the right for the “Hale Iki” sign on the big Plumeria tree. House is on the makai, or ocean front side. Go ahead, open the gate and park on the lawn. Take a deep breath and ALOHA! "Ho'onanea" to pass the time in peace, ease, and pleasure. Since Hale Iki is directly on the ocean front, you have the endless Pacific Ocean to enjoy.
