Most timeshares are apartment complexes with a few amenities like a convenience store and pool. Marriott's Kauai Beach Club is a true resort with every amenity imaginable from surf and sailing lessons to hair, nails and massage at the spa, to hula lessons to kayaking to amazing local artists displaying their projects. All types of beach rental equipment is available (surf boards, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, kayaks, etc.) within the resort along the beach. Beach/Pool chairs and towels are free!
Palm trees are plentiful on the beach, and there is also a large grass area (that's right - grass that grows on the beach for those who are 'sand adverse') with lots of pool and beach chairs - and the resort does not charge an extra chair or towel fee; waitress service is available pool and beachside; the villas are newly refurbished and the resort boasts the largest pool in the Hawaiian Islands.
The resort is in Lihue, you are minutes from the airport and directly in the middle of the road system, so a short drive north to Princeville and points north, or a short drive south to Poipu and Koloa. This is truly the best location on Kauai.
Local restaurants like the Beach House and Gaylords are fit for the finest foodies. There is a breakfast dive the locals flock to called Tip Top that is a short cab ride away.
The restaurants onsite are fabulous as well. Duke's has been a Kauai mainstay for 30+ years. The new sushi bar and gazebo dining on the terrace are wonderful as well. Did I mention the resort has room service?
While you can eat and drink at the two restaurants and bars poolside, a short walking distance from the pool and beach are other wonderful restaurants and a shave ice stand. Yes, it's a "shave ice" stand, not "shaved ice." Try one with ice-cream in the center.
All this said, if you prefer to eat within your villa, there are grocery stores, Costco and Kmart within 3 miles of the resort.
The health club has been renovated with state of the art machines. And not just one or two new machines -- enough equipment for 30-40 people to exercise at once. Group exercise and yoga classes are available daily.
