Welcome to Hale Kauka, in the quaint town of Puako. Showcasing the charms of old Hawaii, the home was designed by renowned architect Vladimir Ossipoff, known for his ability to mold his projects to the natural landscape and incorporate native wood, stone, and other local materials. Hale Kauka is one of the few properties in the area with access to a small sandy beach right off the back yard!
The home’s master bedroom boasts a king-size four-poster bed, a private lanai with lounge seating and incredible views, and an en suite bathroom with dual sinks, a walk-in shower, and a separate soaking tub. The second bedroom, which features a queen bed and its own lanai with comfortable seating, shares a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with the third bedroom. The third bedroom provides a twin trundle bed, and the fourth bedroom provides an additional twin. Hale Kauka offers an open-concept living area, dining room, and kitchen, plus a separate family room with a library and television.
Nearly an entire wall of the home’s main living space opens to a large covered lanai, creating the ultimate indoor/outdoor living experience. The lanai’s incredible ocean views, inviting lounge chairs, grill, and dining table make it the perfect spot to spend your whole day! The spacious back yard also includes a private lap pool and hot tub, as well as an expansive lawn ringed by swaying palm trees, with plenty of room to relax and play.
Located in west Hawaii on the famed Kohala Coast, Hale Kauka offers guests close proximity to the gorgeous white sands of Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea Beach, and Wailea Bay. The home is adjacent to one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in Puako Bay, known for its crystal clear waters and extensive, spectacular coral reefs. Nearby petroglyph fields also allow guests the opportunity to explore over 3,000 ancient rock drawings. Many dining and shopping options are also close by at the Waikoloa Beach Resort and Mauna Lani Resort, and a 35-minute drive leads to Kona, Waimea, and the north Kohala area.
Please note that we require a seven-night minimum stay during the holidays. Christmas reservations must check out by 10 a.m. on December 27, and New Year's reservations may check in on December 27 or later for a week. There is a 14-night minimum to book both Christmas and New Year's.
Please also note that like many homes on the island, this home does not have air conditioning or ceiling fans but was designed to take advantage of cooling trade winds.
