Upper Canyon Cabin is a nature-lover’s delight. Less than 10 minutes from Grindstone Lake, the 3-bedroom home is surrounded by towering Ponderosa pines, and the woods are frequented by elk, deer, eagles, owls, and even bears and wild horses.

Picture windows let you admire the scenery while you’re indoors, and there’s also a spacious deck for reveling in nature’s bounty. Cook up trout you reeled in yourself on the gas grill, then dine at the roomy deck table, which seats 6. After a day on the go, soak in the deck’s hot tub; the massaging jets of steamy water will rejuvenate even the weariest muscles. Once the sun sets, kick back on one of the bench swings in Upper Canyon Cabin’s front yard. There’s an outdoor stove too, so you can gather on even chilly autumn evenings to gaze up at the star-studded sky.

The interior of Upper Canyon Cabin offers plenty of space for everyone to gather as well. The sunny great room has multiple leather sofas and armchairs where the whole gang can sprawl out and relax. Watch a movie on the flat-screen TV with cable, surf the web via the free WiFi, play a game, treat yourself to a nap: In other words, make yourself right at home.

The dining area of the great room seats 6, and the kitchen is fully equipped with stainless-steel appliances, cookware, gadgets, and tableware. All you have to bring are food and an appetite. Prefer to eat out? You’ll find plenty of restaurants nearby—and you can reheat any leftovers in Upper Canyon Cabin’s microwave.

Two of Upper Canyon Cabin’s 3 bedrooms are on the main floor. One has a king-size bed and opens onto the deck, so you can slip outside first thing in the morning to watch the sunrise without waking the others. The 2nd bedroom has a full-size bed. These rooms share the main floor’s bathroom. Downstairs is the master suite, with another king-size bed and its own bathroom. Because it’s the only room downstairs—aside from the laundry area, with its washer and dryer—it offers exceptional privacy.

When you arrive at Upper Canyon Cabin you’ll find plenty of clean towels for both bathrooms, the beds beautifully made up, and extra bedding at the ready. Other amenities include central air-conditioning, ceiling fans, and plenty of parking. The main driveway can accommodate 3 vehicles, and there’s also parking below should snow make the driveway difficult to access.

As lovely and restful as Upper Canyon Cabin is, you probably won’t be spending that much time inside, given how much there is to see and do nearby. Less than 10 minutes away is Grindstone Lake and Trail System, where you can fish, boat, hike, ride mountain bikes and horses, and play disc golf. You can drive to Alto Lake and Recreation Area in 15 minutes; when you’re not fishing—the lake is stocked with trout—you can explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike, or horseback. Just 40 minutes away is Ski Apache, the southernmost continually operating ski resort in the country, with warm-weather powder skiing and a peak of more than 12,000 feet. If you’d like a break from strenuous activity, spend the day exploring the art galleries and artisan shops of Sudderth Drive, visiting the Hubbard Museum of the American West, watching horse racing at Ruidoso Downs, or trying your luck at Billy the Kid Casino—they’re all less than 20 minutes away.

When it comes to vacationing in Ruidoso, Upper Canyon Cabin has it all: a breathtaking setting, proximity to area attractions, a hot tub, high-speed WiFi, comfortable furnishings, and more. So what are you waiting for? Book your stay today, and get ready for your best getaway yet. Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads.

From Condotel’s parking lot make a right onto Mechem. Go to the third stop light and make a right on Sudderth. Go to the traffic circle and bear right on to Main. Stay on Main for 1/2 mile until you come to Ebarb at Story Book Cabins. Turn right on Ebarb and drive up about 200 yards passing McCarty and Saint Vitus. Turn right just after the yellow hydrant at #132. Go up paved driveway and bear left to the uphill side of the house.
