Description

Perched on a quiet road among spruces and pines, Wood Stone has everything you want in a rustic cabin: wood-planked walls and floors, a cozy fireplace, a balcony where you can relax among nature’s splendor. The 3-bedroom home also features plenty of modern must-haves, including free WiFi, cable TV, and a convenient location close to just about everything Ruidoso has to offer.

Wood Stone’s open-plan living/dining area makes it easy for everyone to hang out together. When you’re not curling up on one of the leather couches watching a movie on the large flat-screen TV you can sprawl out on the rug to play with the kids or gather around the fireplace for après-ski drinks. The dining table lends itself to both family meals and card games, and when you raise its drop leaves it can accommodate a small crowd.

Just off the dining area, Wood Stone’s kitchen is equipped with stainless-steel appliances (including the all-important microwave and dishwasher), cookware, tableware, and plenty of counter space. There’s loads of storage too. You can stock up on a week’s worth of groceries at the beginning of your stay, rather than have to make repeated trips to the market.

During the warmer months, you’ll probably enjoy at least a few meals outdoors, on Wood Stone’s deck. The views are glorious, the pine-scented breeze rejuvenating, and the singing of the hummingbirds and nuthatches magical. As well as a table and chairs, the deck has a gas grill, so that you can cook as well as dine alfresco. If you reel in any trout or flounder from one of the nearby lakes, this is the place to savor them. It’s also a delightful spot for lingering over a nightcap beneath the star-speckled sky.

Two of the 3 bedrooms include a queen-size bed as well as a flat-screen TV, making Wood Stone as well suited for 2 couples vacationing together as it is for a family. The 3rd bedroom, with a twin bed and a trundle, is perfect for the kids. What’s more, one of the living area’s sofas opens into a bed for 2 more, so that the house can sleep up to 8 people in all. When you arrive you’ll find all the beds impeccably made up, extra bedding ready and waiting, and plenty of clean towels for both bathrooms—no need for you to bring your own linens. In fact, because Wood Stone has its own washer and dryer, you can pack even lighter than usual.

Whether you’re in town to ski or to hike, to fish or to golf, you’ll find Wood Stone conveniently located to just about everything the Ruidoso area has to offer. The Cree Meadows and Links at Sierra Blanca golf courses are both within a 10-minute drive. Equally close is Grindstone Lake and Trail System, where you can fish, boat, hike, ride mountain bikes and horses, and play disc golf; you might also see ospreys, mule deer, black bears, and elk while there. About 15 minutes north of Wood Stone is Alto Lake and Recreation Area; when you’re not fishing—the lake is stocked with trout—you can explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike, or horseback. Just a few minutes beyond the lake is Ruidoso Winter Park, where you can snow tube in winter and soar on a zip line year-round. In no more than 20 minutes you can drive to the Hubbard Museum of the American West, Ruidoso Downs horse track, Billy the Kid Casino, and the art galleries and artisan shops of Sudderth Drive. Smokey Bear Historical Park, with exhibits that honor the bear cub who inspired the icon of forest-fire prevention, is only about a half-hour away, and in 40 minutes you can drive to Ski Apache.

Ruidoso is a village located in the Sierra Blanca mountain range. If you are desiring outdoor adventures, be sure to visit the Ski Apache resort, nearby is Upper Canyon. Hiking trails and seeing waterfalls can be found in the Lincoln National Forest. If you find yourself in Ruidoso in the summer months, be sure to take a trip to the Ruidoso Downs Race Track to bet on the ponies! No matter how you spend your days, you’ll love returning to the charms of Wood Stone afterward. Book your stay today—before someone else beats you to it!

Please be advised that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions in the winter. A vehicle with 4-wheel drive is strongly recommended.
