The Seaford is a magical seaside property with panoramic ocean views. It’s both an experiential feast for the eyes, and a place made for the adventures of real life. Recently re-tuned and modernized, it's been designed to reflect the roots of our vibrant community so guests can feel fully integrated into what makes this town so special. Our goal here at The Seaford is to be a comfortable and relaxing backdrop for memories made, and our hope is to have you return year after year to make more. Designed and curated by local design studio Fish & Co, The Seaford recently underwent the first renovation since its build in 1973. Designed primarily with low-waste materials to protect the environment that makes this property so stunning, and outfitted with vintage treasures from a lifetime of collecting, it’s been lovingly re-tuned to welcome guests who appreciate modern amenities with a wink and a nod to its rich roots in 70s surf and skate culture. Each day begins with the morning sun illuminating the ample primary bedroom, fit with a king bed, luxury linen sheets, and vintage furniture and textiles collected from across the globe. The room comes outfitted with linen robes by local fashion designer by_KVP, which you can wear to lounge around the house, or slip on after a rinse in the oversized shower in your ensuite primary bathroom. The bright guest bedroom down the hall features a queen bed, also outfitted with luxury linen sheets. It sits directly across from the guest bathroom, which features a shower over tub and handcrafted tile made from recycled materials. Both bathrooms are kitted with hair dryers, toiletries, and waste-free soap and hair care options from our friends at The Nada Shop just down the road. As lovely as the bedrooms are, most guests find themselves spending their time in the open living and kitchen area with its panoramic views of the Pacific. The accordion doors to the balcony open fully to saturate the room with sea breeze and golden light throughout the day. In the mornings, the kitchen is an amply-stocked workhorse ready to help you make elaborate breakfasts, or just a simple cup of coffee to enjoy on the balcony as you watch surfers catch the first waves of the day. The dining set seats four, with an additional three at the peninsula in the kitchen. The balcony is where it’s at. If you’re bringing four-legged friends with you, this is where they’ll snooze in the sun, perk their ears as neighborhood dogs trot down the alley below (it serves as a sort of quiet neighborhood promenade since there’s no street traffic), and raise their noses to sniff all the smells of the sea air. A small bistro table and chairs next to a power outlet allows you to work on a laptop in the shade all day, and the custom daybed for two is waiting for you come quittin’ time. When the sun finally dips into the sea, it’s time to light up the restored gas fireplace, and cozy up on the couch for board games, listening to our small collection of vinyl, or binge watching Netflix where no one can judge you for what you’re watching. TVs are located in the living room and primary bedroom, and are Roku enabled so you can sign into your streaming service and have it automatically log you out at the end of your stay. But let’s not talk about the end of your stay - you haven’t even arrived, and we can’t wait to welcome you :) If you can pull yourselves away from the view, The Seaford is just a downhill amble to the beach, warm coffee, hearty breakfasts, ice cold beers, upscale cocktails, and other gems at the center of Cardiff’s main retail district along San Elijo Ave. E-bike rentals are also readily available at many places in our bike friendly town. However, to fully explore all else that Encinitas has to offer, we strongly suggest having a car at your disposal. There is one on-site parking spot, and street parking available in the neighborhood. You’ll be able to check in and check out on your own, but we are just a short 5 minute drive away should you need anything! We tend to stay out of the way, but don’t hesitate to reach out for questions about the space or recommendations of what to do or eat around town! The coastline of North County San Diego is renowned for wide open sandy beaches (with many dog-friendly options), gorgeous cliffs, and great surfing. It’s just a 25-30 minute drive from San Diego International Airport and all the amazing museums and culture of downtown San Diego, but markedly more relaxed in terms of ethos and lifestyle. A typical Sunday morning could be spent hiking nearby trails (some walkable from the property!), hitting up the playground at our neighborhood park just down the street, paddling out at dawn to catch the first waves of the day at our world-class surf spots, ambling around the botanic garden to admire incredible plant species that can only grow in our ideal climate, or renting an e-bike to peddle down to the farmer’s market and boutique shops of Leucadia. We’re lucky that many independent artists and artisans have chosen to call our town home, and the local aesthetic and shopping options reflect their place here in the community. Evening plans generally revolve around watching the sunset, whether at the beach around a bonfire, over cocktails at one of our restaurants with a view, or right from your own balcony. Downtown Encinitas is chocked full of casual restaurants that welcome dogs and kiddos, most with outdoor dining options. Later in the evening, there are many places to find live music seven days a week or enjoy fancy cocktails or locally brewed beer. The historic La Paloma theater is also a fun place to catch a movie anytime, but particularly on the rare rainy days. You’re within a close coastal drive to north county favorites like Carlsbad, Del Mar, and Solana Beach, and only 20-30 minutes to La Jolla or downtown San Diego. The City has recently invested in more bike-friendly infrastructure, and rented e-bikes are a popular way to get around town. Travel a little further for a day or overnight trip to wine country in Temecula or an adventure to the San Jacinto mountains or Cleveland National Forest. Cardiff is a close-knit community, both in spirit and in space. This home also shares a wall with a neighbor. Due to our proximity to and respect for our friendly neighbors, The Seaford is not ideal for large groups or loud parties. Please read our house rules for more information about noise policies. We use the garages underneath the home for rental supplies, laundry, and as a mellow workspace. You may hear neighborly conversation as a result. Happy to answer questions on what to expect!
