Primary Bedroom and ensuite bathroom in our home. "This sweet little respite, still near town but a bit off the beaten path. Highly recommended for travelers wishing an authentic island experience." We are located: 4 miles to the 2018 Lava Flow 3.5 miles - Hawaiian Sanctuary Retreat 3 miles to Pahoa with a variety of eating places 45 min-Hawaii Volcano National Park 2 hrs - Kona Airport 40 min to Hilo The room is located at the back of the house and features a screened in Lanai and private entrance to the primary bedroom that has an attached bathroom. The walls are thin and there is no insulation, so you will hear sounds in the main part of the house. Quiet hours are 10 pm - 7 am. There is *No Smoking* allowed on the property. Please check out by 11 a.m. so we may get the room ready for the next guest. Mahalo Our home uses a rainwater catchment for bathing , dishes and clean-up (please use responsibly to conserve this vital resource). We supply drinking water sourced from the County Spring. There is instant coffee for your morning cup of java or after meal enjoyment right in your room or on the lanai. Recycle: we recycle all HI5 products ie: plastic, glass and aluminum cans only. the recycling bins and are in the utility area. TV/Internet: 40 inch flat screen smart TV is linked to internet for streaming your favorite shows. For live TV we do have antenna in place and receive reception for PBS, ABC and CBS on occasion. Now for The Good, The Bad & The Ugly: The property is in a remote, semi-wooded location. There are nearby neighbors to be considerate of and who are respectful in return. It is very dark at night, we do have some lights on the house and path lights that stay on for a period of time to help guide you. Weather - we get a lot of rain in Puna. You may notice rain in the forecast for every day of your vacation, these are often just passing showers (or just during the night) and will clear off for periods of time in between. We have umbrellas for your use! Average daytime temps are 75-85 F (winter-summer) and cools down approximately 12 degrees at night, most will find these temps comfortable. Homes in this area typically do not have heaters or air conditioning and ours is no exception. We have a blanket provided in closet and additional available on request for those cool nights and a ceiling fan with a free standing fan available on request for the warm days. Nature: there is a diverse population of animals living among us and it does get quite noisy as a result. You will hear dogs barking when they are provoked, roosters crowing at odd hours in the distance, sometimes cows are being herded to greener pastures early in the mornings. There are song birds going all day long and coqui frogs (yes, frogs from Puerto Rico made their way to Hawaii) start at dusk and go until dawn. There are little bitty but mighty crickets that go all day and night as well, but luckily they stay out in the overgrowth of the lots surrounding us. White noise machine and ear plugs are in the room for your use if required. Pests-welcome to Paradise-they love it here too! Some are nice like the geckos and lizards and mongoose, we don't mind having them here since they eat bugs. Then there are some that don't really bother us but they can cause issues like the worms, snails, slugs and rats (look up rat lungworm disease). And then there are those that are definitely pesky like ants/fireants, flies, mosquitos, blister bugs, roaches and palmetto bugs. Palmetto bugs can be the most disturbing sight, especially when they begin to take flight during the warm summer months but they are actually the least of the problems in the pest world since their lifespan is so short and all they wanted was to come and get water. We know no one wants to deal with pests on vacation but it does happen, they get in despite our best efforts. Our monthly pest control is provided by Bowmans Termite & Pest Management, LLC on the first Friday of every month. Additional items provided: cooler beach towels beach mats beach chairs beach umbrella snorkel gear boogie boards umbrella copper chef induction plate/cookware We have a washer, dryer & BBQ Grill you may use. Utility sink is where you will do your dishes! We have self check-in with a code to be provided before arrival. One of us is around the house or available via message on the app or text all day if you need anything or have questions. We are located near Pahoa where there are unique shops and a variety of places to eat. Check out my Guidebook for information during your stay Your own Transportation is the best way to get around. Public Bus stop about 1 mile from us. Park on the gravel area left of the driveway in space A (Hawaii Road Abode)
