Honomu Town, located on the lush east side of the Big Island, eleven miles north of Hilo, was once a bustling sugar plantation town less than 100 years ago. Now the several businesses and the 500 residents have kept that sugar plantation character. There are two places to eat along Honomu Road, Ed's Bakery and Surf Break Cafe. They are within walking distance of the house. Please note that there are no supermarkets along the Hamakua Coast. If you are coming from Hilo, there is a Safeway/Target/Walmart next to Prince Kuhio Mall. If you are coming from the north, there are several supermarkets in Downtown Waimea, as well as Malama Market in Honoka’a.
