This apartment is located three blocks away from a main artery in the neighborhood, and is very convenient to the main bus terminal, shopping, and a sports complex that is a nice place for a walk or jog. The apartment is about 9 km (6 miles) from the heart of downtown Asuncion. If you are looking for a place in or near downtown, we recommend you check other listings. Landmarks: Nearby landmarks are the Multiplaza shopping mall, the main bus terminal, Instituto Superior de Educacion (ISE) college, Secretaría Nacional de Deportes sports complex, and Hipódromo horse racing track. Restaurants: There are numerous restaurants along La Victoria Avenue. Go explore some. They frequently change menus, so we can’t list them all here. The greatest density of restaurants in the neighborhood along La Victoria are near the Plaza, above the San Pablo Church (around the intersection of Guatambú) and near the Health Center Number 5. Recreation and entertainment in the neighborhood: If you need to get out and exercise, Secretaría Nacional de Deportes is a great place to go for a walk or run, and they have some outdoor calisthenics equipment. There is a gym on the campus, as well. Occasionally you might find a pick-up soccer game, but most of the fields are reserved. Also, there is a playground for children. The “Hipódromo” (horse race track) not only hosts horse races, but is the main outdoor concert venue for international acts. Shakira, Aerosmith, Roupa Nova, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, and others have appeared here. Multiplaza not only has shopping of all kinds, but also has a movie theater, and occasional festivals. There are many other smaller plazas, soccer fields (indoor and outdoor), private gyms, etc. in the neighborhood. Please ask us if you are interested. Of course, Asunción is a big city, and there is plenty more to do at day and at night that is a bus or taxi ride away. Downtown is a 15-minute drive away without traffic. There is a mall (Multiplaza) within walking distance. Other malls are a 10 to 20-minute drive away. Taxis are available in the neighborhood. Our friend who lives up the block drives a taxi and can coordinate directly with you for trips around town, to the airport, etc. Also, Zulema’s brother has a 4x4 truck and can provide private charter to destinations around Paraguay or even to neighboring countries for your convenience. Public transportation (buses) is also available. The main bus that traverses the neighborhood (on La Victoria Avenue) is the number 13 bus that takes a circuitous route around the city hitting many important destinations. A short 10 to 15-minute walk will take you to Eusebio Ayala Avenue, or República Argentina Avenue, where you can catch very many other buses to destinations around Asuncion and the greater Asuncion area. To travel to other cities in Paraguay and around South America, the main bus terminal is a short taxi ride or walk away (1.5 miles/2.4 km). Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is a 20 minute drive (9 miles, 14 km). You will notice the new construction. We provide a cable television, air conditioning, refrigerator, electric hotplate for cooking, microwave, dishes, and cooking utensils. As in most of Latin America, this apartment does not have a central water heater, but rather has electric water heater connected to the shower. Sink faucets have cold water only. Air conditioning and heating: It can get quite hot in Paraguay in from November to March. There is an air conditioning/heating unit. The apartment does not have a heating system otherwise, so if you travel in winter (June-August), please be prepared with warm clothes. Very few houses in Asuncion have central heating. Low (nighttime) temperatures as low as 0C (32F) can very rarely occur in Asuncion (once every few years or so), and low (nighttime) temperatures between 5C to 10C (40F to 50F) usually occur every winter.
