This lovely uniquely located ground floor apartment with free 24/7 WI-FI connection included, fully air-conditioned and 24/7 hot water is ideally suitable for a visiting small family of 4 or expatriate family looking for a long term accommodation. Features of this flat include en-suite two bedrooms, open living and dinning area with a modern kitchen and laundry facility. The open plan living and dining area is well proportioned and finished to a high standard. This functional two-bedroom apartment with a unique style has one King size bed in the first bedroom and two single beds in the second bedroom is perfectly suitable for 4 persons. The apartment has a large and powerful air-conditioner in the living room. Each bedroom has its own air-conditioner, built-in toilet with shower and Hot water heater. The apartment also has fridge, washing machine, electric cooker, a dining table for six, and most other essential kitchen equipment. We also provide a basic set of crockery, cutlery, saucepans and a frying pan, electric kettle, glassware and cooking equipment adequate for five to six people. Also, we include dinner plates, bowls, small plates, cutlery (fork, knife, spoon and teaspoon) and a coffee percolator as well as coffee and tea mugs. We also provide a few "starter" items such as bottle water, tea, coffee and milk all available for use by our guests on arrival. The apartment is conveniently located in the vibrant area of Malindi, located right in the center of Stone Town near the old Ciné Afrique cinema on Malawi Road with a walkable access and close proximity to all amenities and important sites of Zanzibar Stone Town - a perfect location for exploring the city. We are 5-minutes’ walk from Zanzibar Ferry Terminal and about 200 meters from the Zanzibar harbour. The apartment is about five minutes’ walk to the Darajani Market and about seven minutes’ walk to the major attractions of Zanzibar Stone Town, the House of Wonders, the Old Fort and the Forodhani Gardens - an open-air street food facility opens from sunset to around midnight where locals and tourists spend the evening devouring mostly sea food and other array of delicious and inexpensive traditional mouthwatering Zanzibari cuisine, an exciting fun-filled destination for the whole family to make every outing and event truly memorable. Half way to the Forodhani Gardens along the sea front you pass Mercury’s Restaurant and a pub, named after the Zanzibari born Freddie Mercury, the late lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. The location is a perfect walking distance to everywhere in the Zanzibar Stone Town where guests can truly immerse themselves in the local culture. Zanzibar Stone Town is perfectly safe to wonder around, and you can visit different areas without a problem. Zanzibaris are generally friendly and genuine people. Zanzibar Kisauni International Airport is 8 km away and is about 15 minutes’ drive from the property. (We can arrange for airport transportation to and from the airport). For transportation to the pristine beaches and tourist resorts at the north east coast of Nungwi, (49.9 km), Kendwa (46.7 km), and Kiwengwa (27.4 km) taxis are always available in the Malindi neighborhood. Taxis usually charge USD 45 to 50 one way but can be cheaper in local currency. The taxi rank is 3 minutes’ walk from the apartment on Malawi Road, right in front of the Zenji Hotel. You can also take the local buses, known as Dala-dala, but would take longer around 60-90 minutes due to stops on different villages along the way. The family is responsible for the apartment. The guest will be met and greeted upon arrival, and the key will be delivered personally to the rental unit. We will also show you around the neighbourhood and surrounding areas and give you tips on shops, restaurants, and transportation in the area. We will personally collect the key upon completion to make it easy for you to return the key. The neighborhood is safe and well protected. The area is a bit busy cross-way during the day time when local vendors and people pass through the area on their way to the Ferry Terminal or the Harbor or to the fish market. The Ferry terminal is located a mere five minutes’ walk from the apartment. This is for travel by sea to and from Dar es Salaam. The local mosque is located directly opposite the house and you can hear the calls for prayers. On Fridays, the open space facing the house becomes a venue for the Friday prayer which last for just one hour from 12 noon to 1 pm. However, the neighborhood becomes very quiet and tranquil after 4 pm and remains quiet throughout the night till around 7 in the morning when most people in Zanzibar are usually out and about doing their regular chores and running their daily routine. For transportation to the pristine beaches and tourist resorts at the north east coast of Nungwi, (49.9 km), Kendwa (46.7 km), and Kiwengwa (27.4 km) taxis are always available in the Malindi neighborhood. The taxi rank is 3 minutes’ walk from the apartment on Malawi Road, right in front of the Zenji Hotel. Taxis usually charge USD 45 to 50 one way but can be cheaper in local currency, and you can also negotiate the price. Local buses, known as Dala-dala are also availbe near the market area for transportation to the beach resorts, but would take a little longer to get there, around 60-90 minutes due to stops on different villages along the way. ABOUT THE APARTMENT 1. Electricity: ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION: * Please be mindful of your electricity consumption. In Zanzibar, electricity is highly expensive and the cost of power has been continuously growing in recent years. We would like to remind you that you make an effort to lower your apartment's electricity use. In this section, we'd like to offer some techniques to reduce your electricity consumption and its environmental impact: Please make sure that all electrical equipments are turned off when not in use and that no lights are left on needlessly or when they are not required. Turn off lights and electronics while not in use or leave appliances running when not in use. Having a home office or another area where electricity is heavily used. Using several air conditioners or heaters at the same time. Charging numerous gadgets at the same time. Simple steps such as turning off lights and unplugging chargers when not in use can help to reduce energy use significantly. If the weather permits, consider opening windows and utilizing fans instead of air conditioning. Set the air conditioner thermostat to a pleasant but moderate temperature. Finally, be mindful of your water consumption: Aside from power, another resource that should be saved is water. By taking shorter showers, you can save water. Excessive use exacerbates the problem. Moreover, Zanzibar, like the rest of the country sometimes has power cuts. Sometimes electricity is disconnected for more than one hour. This is very unfortunate, and I sincerely hope there will not be any power cuts during your stay. However, there is an emergency light in the apartment for nighttime, if there is a power cut. The emergency light will last for about an hour and must be recharged when the power is back. 2. Wi-Fi Connection Unlimited Wi-Fi connection with a reasonable speed is available in the apartment 24/7. A password is required to connect to the WiFi. 3. Airconditioner cooling: There is a One and Half Tone Air conditioner in the living room area of the apartment which is powerful enough to cool the entire apartment, but you must keep the room doors open and must switch it off when you are going out. In addition, all the two bedrooms are fully airconditioned with an inverter air-conditioner installed. As you are aware, excessive use of air conditioners will always result in an increase in the electricity bill. Second, excessive air conditioner use is causing a noise concern for our neighbours. Air conditioner noise is making it impossible for individuals to sleep and relax in their own homes. As a result, by adopting these easy habits, we can all help to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainable travel practices. We recognize that this is inconvenient, but we must all do our share to preserve energy and cut our electricity consumption. We appreciate your assistance in this situation and hope that you will be able to make the required improvements to lower our electricity consumption. We also recognize that this may be inconvenient for our guests, but we must consider the financial strain that excessive electricity bills can impose on our operations as well as the surrounding population that relies on energy. We appreciate your patience and cooperation in assisting us in conserving energy and lowering costs. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or issues. We appreciate your patience and understanding. 4. Water: The government water supply is connected to the apartment. We have a One-thousand-liter water tank storage for the apartment. Water is automatically pumped into the tank. However, in the event of an airlock, please switch off and on the water pump and let it run for about 10 minutes to allow water to pass through the pipes. The Water Pump is located underneath the stairs on the left side of the entrance inside the building. 5. HOT WATER : Hot water is available in the apartment 24/7. This is particularly useful during the cool June and July period when the water is a little bit cool in the morning. 6. FOOD: The Passing Show restaurant located on Malawi Road and a few minutes from the apartment has a large selection of Zanzibar cuisine at fairly reasonable prices and is a place to enjoy a genuine local food experience for your breakfast and lunch. I also recommend Breakfast and Lunch at the Zenji Café located just a few minutes walk from the apartment on a busy and noisy Malawi Road. You must also try the Zanzibar Archipelago restaurant for lunch and dinner. It is located at Forodhani Gardens just a few minutes’ walk from the apartment in Malindi. 7. Local Taxis: The current Taxi fare from Malindi to any point within the Zanzibar Stone Town is Tsh. 5,000/- roughly $2.25 and to the airport is about Tsh. 35,000/- about $15.00 8. Places to visit: From Malindi, Nungwi is 49.9 km, Kendwa is 46.7 km, Kiwengwa is 27.4 km and Kisauni Airport is 6.9 km away. 9. TRASH: Please note a Trash bin is placed underneath the kitchen sink inside the lower kitchen cabinets. To empty the trash when the bin is full, kindly take the trash and empty it in a larger bin located in the building next door, on the left side of the main road. If you have any queries about this, please contact my sister who manages the apartment. Have a pleasant trip and enjoy Zanzibar.
