Large historic house close to the beach, public transport, family-friendly activities, and restaurants and dining. My place is good for couples, families with kids, big groups and weddings. The house can also provide a move-in-ready, spacious home for longer stays and Work from Bermuda Certificate holders - go to the Bermuda Government website for more details. This is a grand old house with lots of character, and abundant open space . It sits on almost two acres, a rarity in Bermuda, with lots of fruit trees, cherry bushes, cedar and poinciana trees, roses, local flowers blooming, and birds singing. The expansive porch is the best place to hang out with shade from the sun, and great views of the gardens below. Open up four doors onto the porch from the house and you have a wonderful setting for the whole family to gather. The trail behind the house to relaxing Cambridge Beach is a lovely walk through what was once a botanical garden, and passes the house where David and Iman Bowie lived for many years. One visit and you'll know why they chose this spot. You will have access to the whole house, save the storage/workshop space below the porch, and of course almost two acres of lush trees and garden. The front lawn and lower garden have been ideal places for many weddings. We do at least three weddings a year, with some as large as 100 guests (N.B. tent rentals for shade highly recommended). I live a minute away, when I'm not living in "big house' as we call it. I'll be around to give a tour, help you get groceries back from the store, recommend what to do and where to go, and other general info. about Bermuda. The house has a variety of basics which each group uses and replaces, so salt, pepper, cooking spices, sauces, salad dressings, ketchup, mustard and some leftover spirits are all there to make the first day easy to settle in. The store is very close by, 10 minutes on foot. Most guests are very hungry when they arrive, and there are some easy choices around Somerset Village to dash out for a quick meal, especially if you've been travelling since early morning. The nearby hotel restaurant "Breezes" is just down the trail on the beach; it's the closest, and what a great place for lunch, or dinner with a sunset view. Just over Watford Bridge is Woodys, renowned for delicious Bermuda fish sandwiches along with other tasty casual dishes. Close by fast food includes local favorites Mr. Chicken and Misty's Takeout. The house has charge points for the two-seater Twizy rental cars, and I'd recommend them over scooters, much safer. Very convenient public transit, with bus stops two minutes away, and of course taxis, for which I can recommend various drivers. The nearest ferry stop at Watford Bridge is a 15-minute walk away, and provides service to the City of Hamilton. More frequent ferry service is available from the Royal Naval Dockyard, to Hamilton (year-round) and Bermuda's original capital St. George's (summer service only), which is a 10-minute drive from Cambridge House. 1) The house is also close to the scenic Railway Trail which is great for walking, running or biking. The trains are long gone but the Trail still provides access to big ocean views and several points of interest, including historic Fort Scaur. The Royal Naval Dockyard, which is a 10-minute drive away, has shops, casual restaurants, the maritime-themed National Museum, a small trampoline park and Snorkel Park beach among architecture that's also steeped in history. 2) Quick conservation note: the cost of power is almost 50 cents per kWh in Bermuda, and our water source is the rain. With this in mind, we ask guests to consider conserving energy and water whenever possible. Golfers take note, Port Royal Golf Course is just minutes away. Here is a review from Trip advisor. “Stunning Views with a side of golf!” 5 of 5 stars, Reviewed 2 weeks ago Port Royal Golf Club - home of the PGA Championship for 7 years!!!! Wonderful course walked & played by the best golfers in the world!!!! The 16th hole is the signature hole that gives pause to every golfer. It just that kind of course, awesome views that draw you in, but be wary as traps and thick rough await you. The staff are amazing, willing to assist with a smile to make sure you have an enjoyable experience!! Visited May 2016
