Just six miles from Bowling Green, this hideaway beckons you to appreciate a slower, more thoughtful way of life. Throughout your day, enjoy the wrens, yellow finches, sparrows, cardinals, tufted titmice, woodpeckers and more at our feeders. If you're quiet, you'll see flocks of turkeys and their babies walk right by where you and your close friends are lounging. You'll turn your phone off... The Red Rover - experience our 1877-era "dog-trot" farmhouse - brought back to life. 1,300 sq ft divided into six living spaces plus a new screened-in porch. Enter into the foyer. A "dog-trot" was used in the nineteenth century so that a family could house their prized horse or cow during a harsh winter. Turn right into the living room that 100+ years ago housed the family's kitchen and eating area. Look down; you're walking on original tongue-in-groove beech flooring. You'll appreciate the massive limestone-chiseled stones in the fireplace that supplied both heat and nourishment in days past. Today, you'll kick back on our couches to watch our 49" Toshiba "FireTV”. Or leave it off and pull an old book off of the fireplace shelf. Be careful when you navigate in the living room as there is a 1 inch drop off between the flooring around the fireplace and the rest of the living room flooring. How do you rejuvenate? Turn around, and make your way through the sliding “barn door” from the foyer into the original bedroom - big enough for two queen-sized beds. You'll walk on original poplar flooring. Store your clothing in one of three closets. View the front yard through the wavy-glass in the original windows. You've now experienced how 1877-era farmers and their families lived. Walk back into the foyer to the portion of the house that was added- on in the late 1940s. The "long-room" contains a twin bed so another person can sleep outside the bedroom. You can also sit at a "butcher-block" table and plug into the outside world if your work-life calls to you. You'll also be able to do small loads of clothes in the combo washer-dryer. Turn left and enter the bathroom, added when rural electricity became available in the 1940s in Kentucky. Enjoy taking a refreshing shower, brushing your hair using our touch-screen LED mirror, applying your makeup with a view outback, or taking care of life's necessities. Imagine what life would have been like when an outhouse was as common as a kitchen or bedroom. So turn around, walk back through the "long room" and into your kitchen. Thoroughly modern. Mid-sized refrigerator/freezer with a Microwave oven on top. Another "butcher-block" table (have a snack from the basket!) and four antique chairs. Lots of kitchen cabinet space for dishes, plates, etc. or make yourself a cup of coffee with the Keurig coffee maker. Use the toaster oven in the corner when you're hungry for something hot. Feeling pretty comfortable? Now...step down (carefully) into our screen-in porch. You'll be sitting or lounging under the maple, sycamore, walnut and buckeye trees without worrying about critters that could bite and sting. You'll see multiple feeders attracting beautiful songbirds. Our three "mother" turkeys and their dozen or so chicks cautiously step through late in the afternoon. You'll also see plenty of doe and fawns, and maybe a wandering buck. You'll hear nature singing her finest melodies...and you'll relax. You will have access to the entire Red Rover except for the storage pantry in the kitchen. Also, you may wander in the woods between the Red Rover and Mt Lebanon Rd. Our home sits just 90 yards away from the Red Rover. We're available if you need us. But if not, you're on your own. The Boyce Store - 2 miles away. Turn left out of our driveway and you're there. Bring or rent a kayek to navigate Drake's creek 2 miles away. Phil Moore Park is located 4 miles away. Reid's Livery & Winery - 2 miles away. You will need your car or truck to explore the Alvaton area. We are six miles away from Bowling Green and four miles from the Natcher Parkway that leads directly to I-65. You will have limited access to your cell phone and Wi-Fi. The AT&T tower is close enough for a reasonably good signal for its subscribers but others will have patchy connections. Likewise, our Wi-Fi connection also comes from the AT&T tower and is patchy throughout the Red Rover because the 1877-era walls are so thick. We have found that if you sit in one place, for example, at the butcher block table in the back bedroom, the internet signal is strong enough to enable you to send and receive emails but not sufficient, for example, to allow you to use the Zoom App successfully. Our kitchen does not have a cooktop nor traditional oven. Instead we hope you’ll treat yourself to the many restaurants available to you in the surrounding area.
