Located in the Mahoning Commons neighborhood, a growing artist and theater district. The studio is situated in a late 19th century former city school, now home to the Calvin Center for the Arts. The multipurpose studio is open with large windows and a light minimalist loft design. The studio features a private bathroom and kitchenette. Perfect place to relax and take in the vast amenities of Youngstown. Close proximity to I-680, walking distance to downtown, YSU and Mill Creek Park. Suite of rooms, entry, main room and extra room for additional guests, kitchenette and bathroom. Beyond the rented studio, guests also can access hallway spaces, outdoor yard spaces and parking lots. Please be considerate of other guests and people using the building. In these trying times of COVID-19, it has made it more difficult to maintain our normal checkin and socializing with guests. I am still open to socializing with guests and helping with any additional assistance necessary for guests arrival, but I am also respect of health concerns with social distancing and no contact checkin options. The Mahoning Commons is a small neighborhood with a growing artist and theater district. The neighborhood features three theaters, including Hopewell Theater, Easy Street Productions, and our very own, Rust Belt Theater located in the Calvin Center for the Arts. The neighborhood is home to artists and art studios that showcase their talent through the organization Artists of the Mahoning Commons which host regular art sales. Nexus Recording Studio is one of our latest organizations to move into the neighborhood. We are close to public transportation with a bus stop across the street from the building or a close walk to the main bus stop downtown. The building is located in a central location within walking distance to Mill Creek Park, downtown, and YSU. By car, I-680 is easily accessible. Uber, Lyft, Youngstown independent taxis and pedicab are also available. We are located in a former city school. Plympton Ross Berry (P. Ross Berry), was a self trained African American architect who began construction on the building in 1877. Berry specialized in brick masonry beginning his career as a brick layer at the age of 16. Berry’s industrious career would include owning and operating many brick yards that produced his signature reddish orange bricks that would be used in over 60 of his building projects and brick road projects in Youngstown and neighboring towns in Pennsylvania. Many of the classic details from the past are still featured in the building’s solid massing with large windows and tall ceilings that give it a spacious open feel.
