Our house is being restored with respect for it's historic significance to the College Hill District, Burlington & Missouri Railroad and Saline County. Frank Stephens built this home in 1883. He was the founder of Crete Nuseries which populated the county with trees. The house has served many families and many purposes in nearly 140 years. We are happy to share a piece of that history with our guests! Come sit under our trees! Guests will enjoy an open plan master suite and parlor with private entrance. We provide high speed internet and cable television as well as a quiet spot to sit on the porch. Enjoy a soak in the clawfoot tub after your travels or work. You can relax on the front porch or watch the world go by from our generous windows. We have a comfortable table/desk space for your work on the road and still feel at home! The master bedroom suite features ceiling fan, generous size closet and master bath with an antique clawfoot tub. We provide towels and linens. The master suite has a pillow top full size bed. It opens to the parlor where we can provide additional sleeping arrangements. Please message us so we can help with your needs. Our guests will enjoy having a microwave and mini fridge and Keurig at their disposal. Dishes and flatware are provided (by request during the pandemic). Our house is accessible for guests with mobility challenges; minimum door frame is 30" and accomodates most manual wheelchairs, shower and toilet grab bars installed. It was one of the first two homes on the street, built in 1883. It is being painstakingly restored with respect for it's contributing history to the community. (Some elements are still in progress.) Evenings are quiet and a good time for sitting on the front porch and watching the neighbors walk by. In the fall you are close enough to campus that you can hear the high school or Doane University football games on the weekend. The community of Crete is welcoming and friendly! Crete has a variety of diverse restaraunt options. Most food establishments close at 8 pm. Fast food restaurants are typically open until 10. We are a 14 mile drive to shopping and restaraunts in SW Lincoln as well as the Husker stadium shuttle on game weekends. We provide you with a list of seasonal activities upon your arrival. (Some annual activities are postponed/cancelled during the CoVid pandemic.) Please let us know what activities may be of interest to you and we can offer local insight. Whether you are looking for an off the path retreat, a place to reside while on university business or a comfortable and affordable alternative to hotels in Lincoln, we welcome you and and want to make your stay a wonderful experience! Crete is a wonderful biking and walking community! We are directly across the street from the beautiful campus of Doane University. There is on and off street parking for guests. Car rentals are available from Lincoln and Omaha airports. Within town, private vehicles and pedestrian traffic are the norm. The Saline County Area Transit van is also common transport. The SCAT van does require a reservation, is handicap accessible and charges a nominal fare. As travel resumes in 2021, we want to assure our guests that your space will still be sanitized to the highest standards between guest stays. Some amenities such as flatware and dishes will still be available only upon request to ensure proper sanitation for everyone's comfort and safety. Our property is smoke and vape free and pet friendly. Although our pets do love company, they will be kept from guest areas. We ask that you contact us prior to making a reservation if you are planning to travel with your pet so we can determine if we are a good fit for your small animal. We can also recommend our highly trusted veterinary boarding less than a mile away.
