Set on a quiet street in historic Volcano Village, Hiʻiaka Guesthouse is a private, romantic pied-à-terre on the second floor of a beautiful 2-story custom home. Surrounded by old-growth ʻōhiʻa forest, and overlooking a lush and peaceful garden, the guesthouse offers a distinct treehouse-like experience and sublime closeness to nature. The entrance to the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park is just a 5-minute drive, while the Village shops, restaurants and art gallery are within walking distance. The entire second floor is reserved for the exclusive use of our guests. A private staircase leads from the parking area to a large dining porch with vaulted ceilings and skylights. From here, double doors open to the bright living room and fully equipped kitchen with custom wooden cabinets and a breakfast bar. The open plan, generous windows and high ceilings throughout the home offer a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience, while the warm wood floors and tasteful furnishings blending Japanese and Polynesian elements imbue the space with a sophisticated yet casual feel that is true to the spirit of Hawaii’s rich cultural fusion. The bedrooms are equipped with a California King and a queen-sized bed, and fitted with high quality linens. You’ll also find a small desk with laptop-friendly workspace in the master. In the bathroom, a Spanish-tiled bath & shower combo featuring a large bay window offers unobstructed views into the pristine forest surrounding the house and invites you to luxuriate in the tub after a long day of hiking. Toiletries and ample towels are provided. There is free WiFi throughout the property, a wireless universal phone charger in each bedroom, and a USB port for charging your devices in the kitchen. In the living room, you’ll find a Bluetooth speaker and a selection of carefully curated Hawaiian literature. Laundry facilities are available on the ground floor. Perfect for honeymooners, birdwatchers, nature lovers, small groups of friends, artists, writers, and those seeking a unique and relaxing rainforest experience, Hiʻiaka Guesthouse is the perfect sanctuary to wake up to the sounds of local birds and watch the evening mists float through the treetops. The local contact lives quietly in a separate downstairs unit. She is always available to you for assistance or suggestions but will otherwise leave you to enjoy the guest house and gardens in complete privacy. Please note: To keep Hiʻiaka Guesthouse a place of rest and inspiration, there is no television in the home. Due to the rainforest surroundings and absence of neighbors on all sides of the property, we have also chosen not to use window coverings. This property is not suitable for young children. The entire second floor is for the exclusive use of our guests and there is a designated guest parking space. Laundry facilities are available on the ground floor. Your Volcano Village location puts you 40 minutes from Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, where you may see turtles nesting and swimming, one and a half hours from the City of Refuge, and only 40 minutes from historic and beautiful downtown Hilo with restaurants, shops, museums and nearby snorkeling beaches. Amenities in the village include several diverse restaurants, 3 convenience stores, 2 gas stations, a launderette, gift shops, an art gallery, post office, a nearby local winery, and Sunday morning farmer's market. Fresh local vegetables are also available on Wednesdays at McCall's Farm, just a few minutes from the house. It is absolutely essential that you rent a vehicle for your stay on the Big Island, as public transportation is not really adequate for mobility and flexibility. The restaurants, cafes, shops and the art gallery in the Village are within walking distance (15-20mins) and free parking for one (1) vehicle is available at the house. To keep Hiʻiaka Guesthouse a place of rest and inspiration, there is no TV in the home. Due to the rainforest surroundings and absence of neighbors on all sides of the property, we have also chosen not to use window coverings. This property is located on an unpaved private road but is easily reachable with a standard rental vehicle.
