Volcano Mist Cottage ... a very private residence
Volcano Mist Cottage
Volcano Mist Cottage ... the little luxe hideaway on the Big Island. Nestled in the Kilauea Forest Preserve adjacent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Volcano Mist Cottage offers you the simple understated luxuries of space, tranquility, rest and privacy. Our handcrafted home is designed with extraordinary attention to detail and constructed with great respect for the natural elements in Hawaii. We offer you the absolute privacy of a personal hideaway in the Hawaiian highlands. Volcano Mist Cottage is a single cottage sanctuary specifically designed to accommodate only two people in order to celebrate privacy and enhance the quality of the guest experience. Exceptions are rarely made. Volcano Village is a quaint, quiet community in the highland rainforest next to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, on the Big Island. This unique arts & science community has a distinct Old Hawai'i atmosphere with a "village center" consisting of a post office, two gas stations, two ‘mom-and-pop’ grocery stores and a variety of good restaurants. Volcano Village is located at the 4000 ft. elevation, so don't expect to see sandy beaches and coconut trees! This majestic area is a World Heritage Site and a designated International Biosphere Reserve. It features incredible bio-diversity including a tropical upland rainforest filled with lush foliage and wild ginger, orchids, Hapu'u ferns and Ohia trees with bright red Lehua blossoms. The main entrance to Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park is about three miles down the road from the cottage and is headquarters to the world's most active "drive-in" volcano. As you know, Kilauea has been especially active recently both at the summit and in the east rift zone and some popular viewing areas in the Park are not currently accessible to visitors. Please check current conditions directly with the Park Service (808-985-6000) at www.nps.gov/havo or Hawaii Volcano Observatory (808-967-8862) at www.hvo.wr.usgs.gov. If your stay includes a Sunday, DO NOT MISS the early morning (6 to 9 am) Farmers Market at the Cooper Community Center on Old Volcano Road at Wright Road. You will find a variety of local arts and crafts, estate grown Big Island coffees (“Mo betta den Kona!”), a delicious array of organic produce, artisanal baked goods and prepared dishes, and a very friendly and homespun social atmosphere. Our pricing includes standard cleaning and service fees - no extra charges apply.
