Now open for a minimum stay of 2 weeks or long-term. or long term stays. The Queendom kitchen is AMAZING and is a pleasure to cook in. There is a filtered water tap in the kitchen sink and modern plumbing. The dining table sits up to 8 people. The dining area opens up to a huge Garambullo cactus and a wonderful garden to rejuvenate in. WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN BEE: 1st FLOOR • This is a great space to enjoy the ever changing secret garden. A place to read and draw while in between your walking adventures. Check-in time is between 3pm and 9pm, no late check-ins, please. Check-out time is by noon (12pm) the day of departure. Please be mindful when you make your travel reservations so that you arrive and leave at reasonable hours. Thank you so much. The Golden Bees Caretaker, Carrie, is a fabulous host, she will be there to greet you and help you get settled. We have added a lot of fun details into the Queendom. In the large brick dome, called a Bovada, above the dining table we have inset solar stars into the bricks. When the sun goes down the stars come out and twinkle on the ceiling. Bovadas are built free standing and is specific to this area of Mexico, truly remarkable. All of the dining dishes are made from artisans in Mexico. There are other wonderful ceramic pieces to enjoy throughout the Golden Bee. Theodore, one of the creators of the Golden Bee, has recently added some of his new paintings to the walls. There's a sweet gas fire-place and desk in the living room. The couch pulls out into a twin bed. The kitchen is HUGE and so fun to cook in. It has a three station commercial stainless steel sink. This sink has filtered drinking water tap for your ease and comfort. This is a great kitchen for doing cooking retreats. The Stove also has a pot filler. The view from the kitchen is of a 20' foot and 25' across, Garambullo cactus in the garden. The bathroom has new modern plumbing and great hot water and pressure. The floors are hand made mosaic tiles from San Miguel Allende. Sara designed the metal mold for all the floors. The bedroom can be set up as a king bed or as two twin beds. The bed room also has a closet and plenty of storage for clothes. There is nothing better then walking all day through the romantic streets of Guanajuato and coming home to tea in the garden. The Golden Bee is all new construction using a new eco-insulated material called Covintec. Covintec is considered a Lead Platinum Green Product. It is a structural wired panel filled with a ridgid insulation, which is than covered with stucco. This panel system is quieter then brick and the rooms stay cooler or warmer than concrete. The doors, windows and gates are all made of steel so you can lock things up for security but still have light and fresh air. We are interested in month long stays. There is so much to do in Guanajuato and its marvelous surroundings. THE QUEENDOM SUITE INCLUDES: • Welcome book with places to go and things to see • WI-FI • Access to the washing machine on the 3rd fl. Inside the beautiful stone wall that surrounds the property, a 20 foot tall old Garambullo cactus is centered in the garden The Garden is full of honey bees that buzz among the cactus' and fruit trees. Feel free is share the fruit and herbs in the garden among the household. HAVE YOUR OWN CAR? There is a 24-hour secured outdoor parking lot with a guard, one block away from the Golden Bee. They lock the gate to the parking lot at 12:30 am and open it again at 5:30 am (there is someone there if you need to get in at closed hours). The Golden Bee is about a 15-minute walk to the center of town. If you head straight out the door, cross the street and go down the hill, veer to the left and through a tunnel you will arrive in the centro. A taxi ride back up is about 45 - 55 pesos. UBER is now available, we suggest you download the app. There are also buses that go directly up and will drop you off right in front. The Golden Bee is located on the city bus line, just step outside and walk 20 feet to the bus stop. There are large buses and small buses. The smaller buses go down Barrio Nuevo and the large buses go along the Panoramic and stay more major roads into the centro. Little business and eateries are popping up all the time. A little food market just opened up across the street. In the morning they have different things delivered such as warm pastries, corn tortillas, and hot rolls. There is also a small hardware store across the street and paper store if you need to make copies. If you head up the hill behind the Golden bee there is the beautiful old Mellado church at the top with a sweet plaza out front. WE STILL HAVE SPACE AT THE GOLDEN BEE - FOR FESTIVAL CERVANTINO OCTOBER 2019!!! GUANAJUATO’S, AMAZING PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL IS ATTENDED BY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND PERFORMERS FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE. At The Cervantino Festival in October, there are many genres of performance art including contemporary and traditional dance, theater, opera, visual arts, film, literature, and some fantastic multimedia pieces. There are many workshops, exhibits and conferences that happen simultaneously (mostly in Spanish). Events are held in venues throughout the city and outskirts. Performances happen both indoor and outdoor, in plazas, tunnels, side streets, theaters, cathedrals, historical buildings, parks, and museums. It is a treasure hunt full of amazing surprises. We have seen some of the best work at this festival that we have ever seen. "The oldest known name for the area is “Mo-o-ti," which means “place of metals." Later, it was called "Paxtitlán" by the Aztecs, which means “place of straw." The current name of Guanajuato comes from P'urhépecha “Quanax huato," which means “hilly place of frogs." ---Wikipedia BEE NOTE: Of the more than 20,000 bee species in the world, including native species, 2,000 are native to Mexico and depend on specific local weather, vegetation and forest conditions. The main differences between the honey produced by Western and native species of honeybee are in flavor, production capacity and colony size. the The first floor has access to the whole front garden area. The washing machine is on the 3rd floor so we encourage the 2nd and 1st Floor to ask when it is a good time to do some laundry. We ask that everyone leave 40ps a load. This goes back into buying laundry soap and other household cleaning supplies. Each apartment has its own outside space yet the downstairs sitting area under the citrus trees is open to all. We invite you to shop in the local food markets and please remember to soak your fruits and vegetables with a couple caps of the soaking liquid under the sink for 15 min.. Happy adventures cooking! Carrie is around and is happy to answer any questions. Please always double check you have your keys when you leave and always lock the gates and doors. This neighborhood is so fun to watch change. It is constantly changing with new little shops, currently there is an artisan brewery next door and little food store, hardware store and paper store across the street. There is also a kindergarten close by and often the children walk by dressed in costumes, lots of insects and princess' pass by. It is so fun to see them as they head to school. There is a hidden church and plaza above that nobody seems to have discovered yet. The parking lot that we use is only a minute walk down the street. Joggers are running by on the road in the morning. Mexico is growing rapidly and all around us you see it's bright vitality. There is a bus stop right out front. You can get a big bus that goes the long way around and into town or a little bus that shoots down Barrio Nuevo and or back up. It is easy to get a taxi up to The Golden Bee. It might be a little wait for a taxi going down. Walking into down town Guanajuato is a downhill 10 -15 min walk. If you are staying a 2 weeks or more, we ask you to have the housekeeping staff come at least every two weeks. Send us a message here and we will arrange that for you. Additional cleaning charges are your responsibility. DENTIST- If you are looking for dental care we can highly recommend a great dentist and the Golden Bee is a great place to sit in the sun and recover. Our dentist is also one of our neighbors and we both have had great work done by him. He can do anything. Ask us for his info if you are interested. LOCK UP - Please always double check you have your keys when you leave and always lock the gates and doors.
