Modern meets Maya, this lakefront house is a unique place with a style of its own. Two bedrooms with sliding doors to balconies overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains and volcanos. Loft type downstairs with combined living/dining room and kitchen for sharing quality time together while gazing over the lake. Walking distance to restaurants for candle-light dinners, kayak/sub rentals and hikes along mountain footpaths or the lakeshore. Be prepared for a lovely stay with us! Two-level very spacious house with open loft-like downstairs with integrated kitchen, dining and living rooms. 2 Bedrooms with private bathrooms. Patio with sunroof and 2 hammocks. Pier. Whole house, patio, beach, pier Please let me know how I can assist you in getting there, touring the lake, eating, what to do, etc. Santa Cruz La Laguna is a small Mayan village on the norther shores of Lake Atitlan. The actual village is higher up in the mountain (you can take a Tuk Tuk from the main dock or hike up to the village for a visit), while the lake shore is where the hotels and restaurants are located. The lakeshore is fairly quiet and you can have a nice hike along the water front from one end of the bay to the other. Santa Cruz is very safe for walking, but you need a flashlight after dark. There are some nice options for dining out (reserve dinner before 3pm), and Hotel Isla Verde right next to us has occasional pizza Sundays with yummy wood fired oven pizzas. Up in the village you can visit CECAP's (a non-profit technical training center for local youth) Cafe Sabor Cruceno restaurant for tasty meals and views, and shop for handicrafts made by local youth and women. Walk higher up the village to have a unique cultural experience wandering among the small houses and friendly villagers for amazing views of the lake and the surrounding mountains and volcanos. Our property is located right next to Hotel Isla Verde's restaurant and 5 minutes from Los Elementos Adventure Center where you can hire paddle boards and kayaks. Right above our house there is a hiking path which will take you to the next village Jaibalito (you can stop for a drink at hotel La Casa Del Mundo along the way - you will need some muscle power for all those steps!). Take a boat back to Santa Cruz after the 30 or so minute beautiful hike or head back the same way you came from. You can swim in the lake in front of our house or basically anywhere along the shore given that by law, beaches are free to use for everybody. We like to walk to the end of the path past our house to view the volcanos and take a dip in the lake. Eating in/eating out If you'd like to cook your own meals, make sure to drop by La Torre supermarket in Panajachel located close to the public Tzanjuyu docks on the main entrance road to Pana (like Guatemalas call it) before taking the boat. If you prefer eating out, Santa Cruz options include Isla Verde, Arca de Noe, Holy Tortilla and Iguana Perdida, which all offer breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Dinner for the night must be reserved by 3pm (except for Holy Tortilla). If you arrive to Pana by car, leave it at Tzanjuyu parking by the dock for Q75 per day, then take a public (Q15-20) or private 10-minute boat ride to Santa Cruz. We are located to the left far end of the bay. If you arrive to Panajachel by other means, you can walk or take a Tuk Tuk to Tzanjuyu docks for the Santa Cruz boat service. Our trusted boat operator is Juan Sipac (cel. 5150-0247) if you want to hire a private boat ride to the property. Just say you need to get to Kristina’s chalet. The cost of a private boat service: Q125 for 2-3 people and Q150 for 4 people. If you are an extremely light sleeper and enjoy sleeping in, consider bringing ear plugs; mornings at the lake begin at 7am.
