Stay with us on the Schoppee Farm! This 200 year old farmhouse is the shining star of the Schoppee story. Stay cozy by an open fire, enjoy the view of the ocean and the buzz of the fields during our farming season and soak up the history of this spacious farmhouse with your family! This is a working farm and social space. The milk barn has recently been renovated into a Pâtisserie, Là Laiterie, run by Chef Florance Thursday- Saturday 8-2. Fresh espresso and homemade pastries on property! The Schoppee Farm was established in 1823. The farm closed in the early 1960's after serving Downeast Maine as a small town dairy for nearly a century. Now the farm is owned and operated by the eighth generation and the fields have been cultivated and planted with organic hemp. This is a working farm and a very busy piece of property! The milk house in the front yard (check photos for proximity) is now a Patisserie, Thur- Sat and will be open for the summer and early fall. Through the spring and summer we are prepping the fields and planting. Our greenhouse is located on the same property as the farmhouse so we will be in and out of the yard and the fields surrounding the property are busy with farming during the warm months so you and your family will get a close look at working hemp farm! Then September through October is our harvest season. On the farm we occasionally host farm to table dinners created by Chef Ross Florance, from May through October. The dinners are held on Sundays and if a dinner is being held and tickets are available during your stay we can connect you with Chef Florance if you and your family would like to enjoy an 8 course tasting menu made with fresh, local and seasonal ingredients! The original open fireplace in the front room will you keep you warm and cozy during a cool Maine day and at the front of the house there is a large sunporch where you will be able to sit and enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the view of Little Kennebec Bay. The large outdoor deck is the perfect spot for family dinners in the evening and a spacious front yard for games and activities! There are four bedrooms on the second floor and one bedroom (a partially renovated horse stall) with an attached bathroom on the ground floor. The home has been partially renovated but a majority is still part of the original structure. My husband and I live on the same road as the farmhouse and will be a five minute walk from the property. A 10 minute drive to downtown Machias and a 10 minute drive to Roque Bluffs State Park! This is an old home that requires a bit more tender love and care than most! Because of this we allow only smaller parties to book. The home itself is not fit for parties or large get togethers but if that is something you are interested in we can provide the milkhouse as additional guest space for an additional feel.
