Waterfont beach home on Laguna de Apoyo Reserve, with all modern amenities set on gorgeous, landscaped property beside the warm and healing waters of the Search "Quinta Lee" for reviews.. The main house itself is a large open concept indoor/outdoor design that provides a stunning view over stepped gardens to the sparkling laguna below. An attached building has three private bedrooms, each with its' own ensuite and AC. There's a nice bit of lawn where kids can play, a number of great spots to relax in a chair or hammock, pretty gardens to amble through, even a little bit of sandy beach to sunbathe. The Laguna is said to be the best place to swim in Latin America. The water is warm and clear and velvety smooth. The house and sleeping quarters, the gardens and lawn, the beach and the Laguna are all there for the guests. Enjoy! The Laguna de Apoyo is a pristine sapphire blue crater lake located in a biological reserve, roughly an hour southeast of the Managua airport. The colonial city of Granada lies a short 25 minute drive to the east, the bustling local city of Masaya is 25 minutes west. The crater is carved out of an elevated mesa that is a bit cooler and greener than the surrounding lowlands. This verdant mesa, home to the "Pueblos Blancos", is a wonderful area to explore. Also of interest (must see!) is the Volcan Mombacho where guides will walk you around the four active craters at the rainforest park encompassing the mountains peak. A bit further afield is the Chocoyero bird sanctuary, on the gorgeous drive through the steep hills and pineapple fields between Conception and Ticuantepe... Quinta Lee sits midway along the north side of the crater facing south, roughly 2 KM east (left) from the bottom of the road down to the lake. The forest is semi-arid tropical rainforest and is alive with a great many species of birds and butterflies, many of which will visit you at the house. Families of howler monkeys prowl in the treetop canopies, night birds and cicada seranade the night. It's all a bit like Eden.....The lake is warm and clear and said to have healing powers - "Apoyo" means help . The swimming is so great! The pacific beaches are only an hour ( Pochomil / Huehuete) or two ( San Juan del Sur, Popoyo or Gigante) away for a day trip or a quick overnight stay. The cooler mountain areas around Matagalpa and Esteli are a few hours north. Quinta Lee is the perfect base from which to explore the area. And , wherever the day has taken you , there is nothing like returning home for a dip into the lake under a starry sky... Many of our clients rent vehicles . It is not necessary to have 4 wheel drive but if you are going to be getting out and around in Nicaragua it is not a bad idea. You will appreciate having a vehicle with a bit of clearance. It is possible to get a taxi from the airport ( or pretty much everywhere ) that will take you to the house. Best to get a price at the beginning of the ride... There are two buses daily that come as far as the school on the lower road ( 20 minute walk from the house) One is very early in the morning , the afternoon bus is usually around three. Ask Wilmer for more accurate times and for any assistance you might need for arranging transportation. Please note that you must bring your own food. It is possible to shop on your way from the Managua. Both Masaya and Granada city have supermarkets (La Colonia, La Union, Pali). There are also local open markets which are best frequented earlier in the day. There are a number of small pulperias on the way to the house where basics (water, eggs, milk, etc.) are sold. Wilmer will know where to go for various items...There should be bottled water at the house when you arrive.
