Locally owned large secure private clean Balgue Lake Cabin ! Short/Long term ready! Tranquility=porches & gardens, fast Wifi! All screened - 2 doors & many windows w/security bars. Fully furnished = dbl bed, bedding, towels, hammock, tables & chairs. Separate attached bathroom w/warm water shower, toilet & sink. Kitchenette = gas stove top, small fridge/pans/dishes, blender, etc. 2 night min Extra person=single bed $10 p/n. Near veggie/fruit grocery shops/buses/taxis. Laundry/tours! Spacious secure uniquely constructed one room Lake Cabin with WiFi/router, gardens & 2 porches with ceramic designed table & bench & space for hammock (provided) & chairs for enjoying lake vistas & breezes! (Additional Lake House for 5 guests across from Lake Cabin. Both are long term ready!) Ask Katy for her delicious typical Nica breakfast with organic locally grown coffee, organic eggs & "Gallo Pinto" delivered to your Lake Cabin! Two screened doors & many screened windows with metal security bars & wood shutters. All newly painted & varnished & remodeled for your comfort & tranquility One ceiling fan & one wall fan. Many shelves, 2 tables, chairs & bench. Outside security lights. Double bed with bedding, tables, chairs, bench & hanging clothes rack with hangers. Bath & hand towels & toilet paper provided. With prior reservation request = Additional single bed, bedding & towel & breakfast = US$10 per night for 3rd guest. Kitchenette includes small refrigerator/freezer, gas stove top & gas tank, blender, coffee percolator, pans, dishes, glasses, cutlery, etc. Back porch includes sink, shelves & attached separate toilet & warm water shower. Lake Cabin, porches & gardens. Coast consists of small pebbles and large rocks from extinct Volcano Maderas. Easy access to swimming holes in front of Lake House. Katy & cohost Linda use messaging app on your travel & arrival date here to make it easy to communicate for transportation & to be at Lake Cabin to welcome you with an orientation. Katy & her family & pets live nearby in their home so also are available for any issues or concerns. Please confirm with Katy what time you bring your delicious typical Nica breakfast to the Lake Porch. Katy can empty the organic/food waste container daily & assist if your garbage is full. Also we can arrange mainland & island transportation, tours, activities, rentals of motorcycles, scooters, quadcycles, bicycles, horseback rides, etc... The coastal Lake Road & area is very tranquil, with large hardwoods, coconuts, seasonal fruit trees such as mangos, Tamarindo & flowering plants attracting a variety of flora & fauna. Many lake birds including Great Blue Herons, Egrets, spoon bills, kingfishers, cormorants, hawks, owls, vultures, etc... Seasonal migrating water fowl can include brown pelicans! The Lake Cabin gardens attract birds too - often Blue Magpies, migrating Kissadees & hummingbirds. Families' chickens, ducks, turkeys & pigs many also wander the area plus dogs, cats & Katy's 2 pet rabbits - Chele & Osita. Local fishermen in their small boats will be seen fishing or even locals with round nets. Children might be swimming as there are many swimming holes even a peninsula "island" - depending the lake levels! The Lake Road is unpaved & stops at the Arroyo/dry river bed but motorcycles, scooters, quadcycles & bicycles can pass by but only only local families use this path. You can park these modes of transport at the Lake Cabin. A high clearance vehicle can drive on the Lake Road to the arroyo. We can secure vehicle car parking (economic fee) at a nearby place on the main paved road. There are several unpaved roads down to the Lake Road with one hostal on each road Bamboo and Lazy Crab. It is a few minutes walk to the main paved road in Balgue with public bus transportation - check with Katy for the next bus towards Santa Cruz/Altagracia or Moyogalpa. Wave down the bus so it will stop for you. There is limited bus service on Sundays. There is one ATM in Santo Domingo & one ATM outside the gas station in Altagracia otherwise you need to go to Moyogalpa =so plan ahead! Everywhere accepts local currency & some local places accept clean, no torn US dollars in small denominations (no 100s!). It is very challenging to make change in small shops/veggie stalls so save your smaller bills in Cordobas for these purchases! There are several locally owned comedors in Balgue - plus a beautiful old working hacienda at Finca Magdalena = organic coffee cooperative with amazing flower gardens, lake & volcano vistas. Tour the nearby prehistoric petroglyphs stone carvings in-sitio & this is the start of the Volcano Maderas hike. It is dangerous & ILLEGAL to hike without a guide! Let Katy arrange one a guide for you!! On the main paved road there are several nearby veggie/fruit stalls and small shops called pulparrias which sell a variety of items. Largest grocery shop at "Y" intersection in Santa Cruz & a "Small Store" in Madronal. There are many other restaurants in Balgue, Madronal, Santa Cruz & Santo Domingo. Katy offers delicious typical breakfast & laundry services with advance notice. She or Linda can arrange your mainland & island taxi transfers, island activities & tours, motorcycle, scooter, quadcycle & bicycle rentals... maybe even a fishing boat! Local bus transport to & from Balgue towards Santa Cruz, Altagracia & Moyogalpa - several times daily except Sunday = starting at 5am. Ask Katy for specific times. With advance notice =We can arrange mainland & island taxi transfers to make it easier. We can arrange rentals = motorcycles (US$25 daily) scooters (US$20 daily) quadcycles (US$50-60 daily) bicycles (US$5 daily) horseback rides (US$8 per hour with guide) Volcano Maderas guide for hike to lagoon - plan for strenuous 5-8hours = US$25 for 2 people. You carry your own water & food - wear shoes/boots with a good tread. Long pants, hat, rain jacket & sunscreen/bug spray recommended for all hikes. Volcano Concepcion guide - plan for strenuous 5-8 hours depending on conditions of active volcano your guide will decide if it is safe to go near precipice. You pay for transportation to start of Concepcion Volcano Hike - approx US$10 pp roundtrip. There are many other tours/activities including San Ramon waterfall, Ojo de Agua natural mineral springs. Santo Domingo Pena Oculta hike, Charco Verde hike in Nature Reserve, La Ceiba Money & Prehistoric History Museum, Punta Jesus Maria & so much more ! In your reservation inquiry please tell us if you speak Spanish & if you have ever traveled in Central America. With reservation confirmed - we share helpful information regarding traveling in Nicaragua & to Ometepe Island prior to arriving including border crossing & ferry schedules. Please share your travel & arrival plans with us in your inquiry as we can share information & arrange your mainland & island taxi transfers to make it easier, more comfortable & secure. You can stop in the main port town of Moyogalpa at the ATMs & largest island grocery stores. The Lake Cabin is just a few minutes walk from the main paved road in Balgue. There are several unpaved roads down to the Lake Road which is unpaved but accessible with motorcycle, scooter, quadcycle = these can be securely parked at the Lake Cabin. High clearance vehicles can safely drive from main paved road down to the Lake Road & along the coastal Lake Road to an arroyo. Intense rains can change conditions of the Lake Roads & the arroyo.
