This happy 1 bedroom 2 story home on 1 acre offers peace and comfort and is a central place from which to enjoy Santa Fe and northern NM. Discounted 31-day minimum stay. Hiking/biking trails in every direction, a small National Park next door. Just 20 mins to Hwy exit for Santa Fe. Full kitchen, open living space, seasonal decks, separate bedroom, separate office. Views and stars galore! We welcome guests from all walks of life. Suited for a single person or a couple as there is just one Q bed. If you are looking for a peaceful staycation and remote work location, along with your Santa Fe area vacation, you’ve found the right place. It has plenty of room to relax, work and enjoy the views. The house has a large footprint for one or two people with room for work space, space space, outdoor space and snuggle in space which makes it ideal for long stays. This warm and welcoming home is nestled on an acre of meadow and trees cupped in a valley between Glorieta Mesa and the mountainous Pecos Wilderness. Enjoy the cool mountain air in the summer. Relax outdoors on the hammock and enjoy your meals or laptop on either deck. Stay snug in the winter months watching the occasional snow fall while you enjoy baking in the full kitchen. On a warm winter day, enjoy the south deck. During the day you are near hiking and biking trails and just 20 minutes from the first Hwy exit into Santa Fe, 20-30 minutes to many popular Santa Fe destinations. The kitchen is well supplied and ready for cooking. There are a variety of grocery stores and restaurants 10-25 minutes away. The large dining table is ample sized with room for your meals and jigsaw puzzles as well. The cozy bedroom has a queen bed; two windows frame a picturesque landscape. Off the bedroom is a tiled full bath with a deep soaking tub/shower. A stacked washer dryer is conveniently in this en suite bathroom. Upstairs is the “crow’s nest” office with cathedral ceilings and windows overlooking Glorieta Mesa. Write your novel or opera, work with distant coworkers, whatever your jam, this is an inspirational, airy, comfortable space for creating. The upstairs office is separated from the downstairs by an open stairwell. (On either side of the office is locked attic space that is not included in the rental.) The fixed wireless WiFi works for zoom meetings, zoom teaching, and research, and is suited for two users. For your entertainment (as if the birds and bunnies aren’t enough): A Roku tv is ready for your own streaming accounts. The bookshelf is stocked with a permanent library of regional interest including novels by local authors, art and culture books, hiking guides, games and jigsaw puzzles. We gladly put together a couple tubs of art supplies to inspire your artistic spirit! There's a horseshoe pitch outside to indulge your inner cowboy/girl/person! If you enjoy a well cared for home imbued with funky charms, surrounded by uneven step-stone paths, cackling crows and mountain breezes, then you will enjoy a stay at this rustic, peaceful haven. In other words, this otherwise modern home is a zen retreat for your pioneer spirit built to inspire creativity and relaxation. It is our absolute pleasure to share this happy vibe with our guests. FYI, the photographs you see are taken with a normal lens, no tricky photography. After you let yourself in, I'll arrange with you to come by to introduce you to the space, and answer questions you may have. It takes about half an hour to explain the workings of the house and share any information guest may want to know about the region. After that I’m easily reached by phone and I have great respect for your privacy. I may stop by if I need something from my shed on the property which is a distance from the house and would not disturb your privacy. The neighborhood is a friendly one where everyone looks out for each other. Each home is on at least an acre. This property lies between the towns of Glorieta and Pecos, twenty miles from the first entry into Santa Fe. You can enjoy strolls from the house through the neighborhood and if you choose you can continue down the quiet country road for miles where you will be walking alongside the Pecos National Historic Park. There is an abundant network of trails into the nearby mountains for hiking or biking just a five minute drive away. A ten to thirty minute drive in any direction will take you to even more hiking: either down into the desert-scapes of the Galisteo Basin or up into the mountains and fishing rivers of the Pecos Wilderness. Enjoy nearby restaurants in Pecos and Eldorado. And of course, in Santa Fe, shop, explore museums and cultural events, and enjoy a plethora of restaurants. You get to Santa Fe via a beautiful, fast and traffic-free highway, reaching the first entrance into town in about 20 minutes. You will need a car, this is a rural neighborhood home. As with most of NM, front wheel or 4WD is recommended. Our maximum capacity is two guests using the one queen bed in the bedroom, we do not accommodate extra guests on the couch and the office can’t be used as a bedroom due to the fire code. The house is kept cool in the summer through passive solar cooling as we built the house to be energy efficient. Simply open a few key windows each night to ventilate the house with cold mountain air and shut the windows around 8am to keep the cool in all day. Guests and locals remark positively on how cool this keeps the house. We don’t use an electric air conditioner but we do have a green and effective cooling system. In the winter the house is heated well and conventionally through a wall heater and a house designed for air flow and a passive solar boost from the sun. You are welcome to use the wood stove. We provide wood for the occasional fire.
