The top floor of our lovely home on Pahoehoe Stream in quiet Papaikou north of Hilo on Hamakua Coast. It’s one flight of stairs up, with the entry opposite the large sauna. We also have a smaller separate studio space and a large one bedroom unit on the two lower floors that we sometimes rent out on Airbnb and sometimes keep for our own use or for visiting friends or family. You can inquire if you’re interested in more info on those, too, ideal for a group of friends or family traveling together but would also like some separate space. The yard is gorgeous, what really sold us on the property. You can feel like you’re deep in the jungle yet just minutes from all that downtown Hilo offers, restaurants, museums, groceries, etc., but also very near surf beaches, botanical gardens, etc. This listing is only occasionally available as it is now part of our own home. We enjoy meeting guests, many have become good friends, but we can also totally respect your space, time and privacy as you wish. Located near the end of a quiet private lane of mostly long term Japanese-American families, bordering the Pahoehoe Stream gorge, a beautiful 5 minute drive to downtown Hilo. There is a strict 10 mph speed limit on the narrow private lane, so please be courteous and drive slowly down the road to & from the home, thank you. Public transit is poor and infrequent on Hawaii. A car is best if you wish to see the many worthy sights. For everyday, bicycles (we have some we have let guests use) have worked out for some, with available grocery delivery services. Hilo Car Rental is much more reasonable than the national companies btw. NOTE: Hawaii GE-067-950-7968-02 & TA-067-950-7968-01 This rental is hosted with us living on-site now & per Hawaii County Planning Dept is exempt from Hawaii County Bill 108 so we may occasionally consider legal shorter than 30 day rentals, too, but prefer just longer term or leaving the space open for our use. The river and waterfall are a short walk away. It is not on our property, but access is allowed. We endeavor to keep the path clear of growth, but be advised this is Hawaii, things grow fast here! It is difficult to keep up. Also, if it has been raining a lot, the path will be muddy and slippery. It starts at a steep incline and then flat from there.
