This unique & recently upgraded Gaudi inspired home will fill your mind with light & colour. Without a straight line in the place & art in every nook and cranny - it’s a feast for the eyes. A big living space anchors the house, leads to a breakfast/dining landing, 2 bedrooms (on 2 of the several levels), & bordering one of the most iconic swimming pools on the planet - this is a stay you won’t forget. With a lower patio & large upper deck for sundowners, & stunning views across the Athi plains. This quite extraordinary space is the brainchild of the Croze family who moved to the Kitengela plains in the late 70’s. Inspired by the outliers of architecture (Gaudi & Hundertwasser) and Kenyan traditional building styles, they created their family home. Loosely based on the kraal or masai manyatta - a ring of huts encircling a central space - this home has grown organically (sometimes quite literally) for the last three decades. You will have unfettered access to the swimming pool and sauna (on demand - please give 3 hours notice). Nani’s Wonderland (sculpture garden and environs) is free to wander around in and Anselm’s Kitengela Glass blowing studio next door is a must-see, with lots of studio activities, some of which you can participate in. There is also a small cafe with fantastic coffee and delicious icecream and pizza (open 8-4.30pm). Either Anselm or Zorina will be available on the phone - and the staff in the compound (Jane/Peter/Nelson) will be willing to assist at any time. The Glass Lane ‘hood is centered mainly around the Kitengela Glass blowing studio. Check their website for available activities. You can also visit Nani’s scary suspension bridge on the property (get tickets on-line or at the Studio), or wander about the Wonderland grounds (free for our guests). Hiking around the area is also popular. Nearby Tuala provides a taste of a local village for intrepid explorers. Further afield the neighboring National Park is unique as is the Giraffe Center and Sheldrick’s elephant orphanage (booking in advance essential). Ubers will get you here, but generally won’t collect as we’re off the beaten path. We have some local taxi drivers we can assist you with if you require. There are also plenty boda riders available for the brave. We are approx 45 mins from town. We are situated on the edge of the Nairobi National Park. There are many baboons and Sykes monkeys who love a bit of thievery - mostly of food - so keep the windows closed when you’re not in the house. No kids under 6 pls - due to various levels in the house and heights without railings. We're about 45 mins from Nairobi, and the last 4km is an untarmacked all weather road.
