A loft apartment in downtown Juneau with views of Gastineau Channel, downtown, cruise ship docks and Douglas Island mountains. An open floor plan, high ceilings, 100-year old wood beams, a spiral staircase to the upstairs loft, an exposed concrete wall, granite counters and tile in the bathroom all add to the ambience of this apartment. New appliances, including dishwasher, built-in microwave, front loading washer and dryer in the unit, and 65" Samsung TV. Walking distance to all of downtown. Juneau's historic Hellenthal Building was built in 1916 during Juneau's mining heyday. The entire building underwent a two-year renovation in 2017-2018. The upstairs loft is divided by 100-year-old beams, and is accessible by two separate staircases. The main staircase leads to a king-size bed. The spiral staircase leads to an area for sitting and relaxing that includes a lounger sofa that folds down into a futon-style bed. Downstairs, the sofa in the living room opens into a bed. Front-loading washer and dryer are located in the bathroom. All of the space is yours. We have one keypad for entering the building, and a second keypad for the apartment. We do not live in the building but are usually in the area and available to assist with any needs to make your stay more comfortable. The Hellenthal Building is located in the center of Juneau's downtown shops, restaurants, theaters, bars, craft breweries and distillery, dispensaries and museums. Several coffee shops are located less than a block from the building. The Capitol building, Governor's Mansion, and trail heads for several excellent hiking trails are just a few blocks away. The building is also a very short walk to the tram, seaplane base, marinas, and tour pickup points. Everything in the downtown area is within easy walking distance. The downtown bus transit center is one block away. Most tours either leave from within walking distance of our building, or offer shuttle service. This apartment is up one flight of stairs, and also has stairs inside the apartment to the loft. Like most of downtown Juneau, we do not have our own parking spaces. Most of our guests with cars use the convenient city-owned parking lot at 2nd and North Franklin, on the uphill side of the Baranof Hotel. This lot costs 75 cents per hour during business hours and is free evenings and weekends. Overnight parking is allowed during the summer months. Children are welcome, but our windows open high above the street below. Parents should use discretion.
