Located in a central Ruhengeri, this bright and peaceful room features handmade Rwandan crafts and artwork, a private en-suite bathroom, and access to a kitchen, as well as a security guard on the premises. This is the largest room in the Umurage, a three-bedroom residence that funds and is also the location of the Ubushobozi Project, which supports a women's sewing and weaving co-op. You'll have the option of cultural tourism experiences with the women here or trips to the Virunga Mountains! This one-of-a-kind space combines beautiful traditional Rwandan artwork and modern appliances and comforts. Much of the artwork is made by women from the Ubushobozi Cooperative and is available for sale, allowing you to take a piece of your stay home with you! Enjoy the airy and light-filled space and feel immersed in Rwandan culture and hospitality. Outside, we can also set up a fire pit. You will be able to access your room, ensuite-bathroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen. Seraphine, the Ubushobozi Cooperative's manager, will be available to pick you up from the bus station and offer support during your stay. She is fluent in English. You can keep in touch with her over the phone. Located in the heart of downtown Ruhengeri. Close to schools, religious spaces, restaurants, bars, cafes, and other accommodations. Safe, easily walkable, and easy to access motos and taxis. Less than a 15 minute walk to the bus station, 10 minute walk to La Paillote (popular restaurant for tourists and locals), and 15 minute walk to Migano's (another popular resturant for tourists), and 20 minute walk to Crema (best coffee shop in Musanze that also has ice cream and food selections). You can get around by walking, taking a moto (500-2000 RWF depending on distance) or a taxi/tourist car. Breakfast and filtered water will be provided (omelette, bread, milk, fruit). This cultural accommodation (see Umurage website) also offers several community-based tourism (CBT) experiences that can be booked with your visit, such as traditional Rwandan dance, traditional basket making, cultural food tours, village visits, a safari tour, and a visit to the Virunga mountains. We can also arrange for laundry services for 2,000 RWF.
