In a perfect and safe area downtown, a home-like, very private, comfy, quiet, and nicely decorated room in a beautiful colonial house. Three minute walk to zocalo and very close to every historic and cultural landmark in the city. Museums, churches, bars, restaurants, laundromats, fresh product markets, grocery stores very close by. No kitchen privilege, but coffee maker and mini-fridge in the room. My mom, my son and I live in this property, which also houses medical offices (located at the front of the building), but there is complete privacy where your Airbnb room is located. We live in the same property, and will be happy to assist you and/or answer any question(s) you might have. If for some reason we are not around, I or my son will be reachable preferably through WhatsApp. This part of downtown is known by the locals as La Merced Parrish or Barrio de la Merced. It's spread around a Mercedarian church and convent half-abandoned whose bells still call to Mass twice a day everyday. We have a wonderful market famous for its Sunday breakfast (ask us about!) and sweet bread. La Merced is a family neighborhood - mixed with many locally-owned small commercial spaces- to which you can safely come back late at night from other parts of town. The house is located at the corner of several bus lines, and many taxis pass by all the time. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING POR FAVOR LEA ESTO ANTES DE RESERVAR ENGLISH (versión en español abajo). Dear guest(s): Thanks so much for considering my Airbnb place for you to stay, a place that is very special for us because our family has lived in it for four generations (my great-grandparents, my grandparents, my mother and her siblings, and now myself with my son). As you can imagine, our history is tied to and is part of this old building. Although it was divided in five parts (among my grandparents’ five children), and each one has done with it different things (two decided to rent their parts to medical offices; one sold his part; my mom lives in hers, and her sister, my aunt inherited hers to me (where I live -and rent to you-), we all have tried to keep it well and alive because we love it: it contains our personal and collective memories. But I want you to know what to expect when you rent with us. Our home is more or less 400 years old. Bathrooms did not exist when it was built, so the ones we have now are tiny because they had to fit in spaces not planned for them. The rooms are dark because the Spanish colonial style placed doors and windows facing to interior corridors and patios, preserving a sense of family intimacy, and keeping the heat off. As I stated before, my mom, my son Carlos and I live full time in this property. However, your studio or room is in a semi-isolated part of the house ensuring your privacy. Occasionally – overall, on weekends- you will see family and/or friend gatherings in the corridors. Do not worry, we respect the quiet hours (10 pm to 7 am) - and we expect you to do so as well-. My Airbnbs allow us to keep living in this beautiful, ancestral house. As you will see when you are here, many colonial houses are falling apart because not many people wish to care for old buildings, and prefer to rent them for businesses or let them collapse to build a new space. Therefore, I am very thankful for renting with us, supporting the preservation of our home.
