We like Bonita ("pretty" beach) - yes you need a car - the town is 15 minutes away - there are 2 large supermarkets for food in town - the best airport is Santo Domingo (SDQ) which is 2 hours away - you can rent cars a the airport. alternatively, you can book a taxi to pick you up at the airport then rent a car locally - this will cost more but be faster.
