The Lookout is perched high above the sea and surrounded by natural forests. It is perfect for romantic couples and nature-connected travellers who want to enjoy a comfortable open-plan living experience with a minimal carbon footprint. The building is powered by solar energy and harvests its own rainwater. It has separated living, kitchen, sleeping, office and relaxing areas. The strong wifi and USB ports throughout make it easy to stay connected while enjoying the beautiful surroundings The Lookout is absolutely unique and has been designed as a large open platform which includes living, sleeping, kitchen and office areas, plus a private bathroom. Two sides of the Lookout are completely open and give you amazing views, be it day or night, out to the sea and towards the island's neighbour Martinique. The opposite weather-facing wall of the building is constructed from natural stone found on the property. Lifting doors protect the inner part of the house and are only lowered should a storm approach, which is about twice a year. The roof is solid cement and hurricane-proof and carries the solar panels. This unique design results is a memorable living experience in a home which is protected but in harmony with the surrounding natural environment. The Lookout makes extensive use of salvaged or recycled materials. The generous kitchen is hand crafted from pallet wood salvaged from the local markets, as are the two sofas and easy chairs. The tables and office desk are made from solid local mahogany wood, sustainably procured and hand crafted. The railings are made from driftwood collected from the beaches - as is the bed which has four huge driftwood trees as pillars. The door frames are made from salvaged driftwood which gives each its own unique shape and custom made doors. Inside, the kitchen area offers all amenities expected by the self-catering traveller, including a dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven. Plus a large fridge-freezer, sufficient storage space for goods, coffee maker, toaster and Espresso machine. The dining area (with ceiling fan) is equipped for two and offers space for additional guests. Two sofas and easy chairs allow you to rest and enjoy life, and a movable fan is available to cool you down should the natural breeze not be sufficient (particularly during the summer months June - September). The private bathroom with a large hot shower area is partly open to the elements and looks out into the surrounding forests. We also installed a visually private office/work environment with a solid mahogany desk and ergonomic chair, and a background which is suitable for Zoom-meetings. Good Wi-Fi 6 is available throughout the property, as are USB charging points, which also makes the Lookout the perfect place for a working holiday. And should you ever tire of the natural sounds of waves, frogs and birds, you can connect to the excellent Bluetooth music system. Outside, you will find a portable BBQ, and we also provide hammocks which you can setup between any suitable trees. We have partnered with a few local guides to offer off the beaten track experiences. We only work with local people, not with tour companies or agencies. Once you are booked we can send you a description as well as an information sheet to help you plan your stay in Saint Lucia. Please note that this opportunity is only for the more adventurous eco traveller! You must be able to climb steep steps without problems and be prepared to live exposed to open air - there are no windows to close. Your rewards are amazing views, the sunsets, rainbows and moonsets, the visiting birds, the noise of the forest, allowing you to take a break from everything else! The building consists of three apartments, the Lookout is the top floor. Private parking is available at the bottom of the property next to the lift (for your luggage) and the steps which lead up to the property You will receive a comprehensive guide to local beaches, restaurants, shops and other things to do after your booking. The beautiful Marigot Bay with its cafes and restaurants, marina, boat hire, water taxis and watersports including professional diving services is approx 15 minutes walk (or 5 min drive) down the hill. On your way to Marigot Bay, you pass the entrance to Trou Volant Beach, a lovely secluded cove great for a quick dip or snorkeling. Two stone-built BBQs are available (you have to bring your own coal etc). This beach is usually empty during the week and visited by locals on Saturdays or Sundays. You can walk down to the local very private beach (8-10mins) and the marina (15 mins). Local taxis are available in the evening, which can also be booked for bespoke tours. If you want to explore the entire island, we recommend to rent a car. Alternatively, you can use local mini-busses.
