Minimalist architectual jewel near Oaxaca City
Minimalist jewel full of light opening onto gardens of towering trees and blooming succulents, multiple terraces and a lap pool. We are part of a Zapotec town with nearby restaurants and easy transportation to Oaxaca city (25 minutes away). We offer tours to craft villages and archaeological sites. The house is the work of two designers, local artisans, and artists who have crafted furnishings, rugs, wall decor, beautifully appointed adobe and other walls painted in the ancient technique of baba de nopal. There are two bedrooms, baths, and closets, as well as a study with sofa bed, a well-equipped kitchen and living dining area. We offer coffee, tea, fruit, eggs and spices. Guests can purchase tortillas and breakfasts close to home. The rooftop terrace offers a spectacular view of the mountains, sunsets, and sunrises. Guests share a protected outside dining area suitable for many activities. The pool area contains separate bath and dressing rooms. The laundry is open to use as are organic vegetables from the garden. Guests are charged for cleaning upon departure and can contract it during their stay. The compound is protected by high walls and our on-site manager Gil, always ready to help. Parking is free and secure. One drawback to the tranquility is nearby music. Once a week a local band of fine musicians practices in the afternoon. Guests never complain. Perhaps two Saturdays a month the salón de fiestas next door plays loud music. We have protection from it. If the music annoys guests, we are pleased to negotiate a discount for the night. Owner or manager always on the premises. We are located in the Zapotec town of Tlalixtac on the outskirts of the city. The town is home to 10,000 people and they are very friendly and helpful. . The town is clean, orderly, and lively with a beautiful central plaza, 16th century church, and a market which serves a great breakfast. There is hiking near and up the mountains. We are near three well-known restaurants, Palapa de Raul, El Milenario in Tule, and Caldo de Piedra (fish soup). There are smaller more down-home restaurants in the town and fresh fish restaurants around the lakes between Tlalixtac and Huayapam. Parking on property and property is guarded. From the street lights that mark junction between Highway 190 and Tlalixtac, one enters Tlalixtac passing a football field, a gravel dispensary, and tire repair shop, then turns right at a one story adobe house onto a dirt road which is Camino de la Cruz. We are on the right behind the first adobe colored wall with a cactus garden. in front.
