Casa Reverencia is a private house in the valley above the village of San Marcos La Laguna on Lago Atitlán. Enjoy privacy, lush gardens, beautiful valley views & limited lake & volcano views from the rooftop yoga deck/chill spot. Set apart from town & surrounded by nature, a few neighbors make it a bit of a neighborhood. FOOTPATH ACCESS ONLY. The location is perfect for one to two people (max three) who want to enjoy nature & be a bit apart from the general noise of town. A very tranquil oasis! Casa Reverencia is a comfortable, private, lush retreat in the valley above San Marcos. It has a full kitchen equipped for people who love to cook, a large roof top yoga deck with dazzling valley views & limited lake/volcano views, generous outdoor covered porch/living area with beautiful valley & garden views & many hummingbirds, indoor living room, hot shower, fresh/clean compost toilet, a large safe for valuables & additional secure storage room, washing machine, ample filtered water & reliable internet. Firm, comfortable double bed on second floor with a private balcony. Additional twin bed on porch could be switched with the couch in downstairs living room. PLEASE NOTE: you pass through the downstairs room to go upstairs. There is a large curtain to close the downstairs room for visual privacy. Neither room has a door. The toilet is composting & accessed from the porch. The shower is heated by an on-demand gas heater (HOT WATER). It is also located outside, off the corner of the porch. The gardens are beautiful & you can sit & watch the hummingbirds that come all day to drink from the flowers. Although there are close neighbors, it has a very private, secluded feel & relatively easy access to town. PLEASE NOTE: This house is ONLY accessible by foot. It is a 15 minute walk up the valley from the center of San Marcos. Alternatively, you could take a tuktuk to the top of Barrio 2 & walk down, which is much shorter (approx 3-5 minutes) but has a small portion where the path is quite steep - there are stairs built into the hill. The Internet comes on a fibre connection & is normally quite reliable. However we can’t guarantee that it will always work. If you are working online its best to have some data on your phone as a back up. Also there are frequent (scheduled & unscheduled) power cuts at the lake. In that case you would need to use phone data & we would also recommend bringing a battery backup for your phone. The internet speed is 5mg down/2mg up & can be increased for an additional fee. The property has chickens, a kitty (indoor/outdoor) & 2 friendly dogs (outdoor.) The dogs are very good for security but that means they do bark when people go by on the path at night. There are also several neighbors with dogs that might bark at night. San Marcos is a dog filled, barky town in general, & the valley no less so (although in general much less noisy than being in town.) Often there is little to no barking at night & sometimes there is a lot. Consider bringing ear plugs. We also provide a white noise machine in the bedroom. The dogs live outside. They do not come in the house & there is a gate to the porch of the outside living area so it is easy to keep them out. If you like them, you are welcome to have them on the porch with you if you choose but they are not allowed to start sleeping on the furniture. :) (Or go inside the house!) PLEASE NOTE: The kitty is accustomed to coming inside the house & is very cuddly & affectionate. You are welcome to put her outside at night but in general, *if you do not like having cats around this is not the house for you.* Our Property Manager, Antonio, cares for all of the animals daily. He does not come into your living area. He also waters the gardens during the dry season, does general maintenance, provides you with filtered water & helps you with anything else you need. He is very kind & helpful & well liked by our guests. He is generally on the property between 10-15 hours a week. We will arrange a meeting spot with you, walk you to the house, get you settled in & make sure you have everything you need. It's good to use caution on the paths in general & especially at night. Antonio & our friend Mateo are on call to walk with you at night for a tip if you prefer. Please remember to bring a good flashlight! :) The house is within a private property. There are no other houses. You will have access to everything there excluding a couple of storage areas. I currently live a few hours away on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. I can be reached anytime by message or phone. Antonio who cares for the animals and gardens is available to help you also. (Antonio speaks Spanish, I speak English and Spanish.) We are located up in the Valley above San Marcos on the way to the Yoga Forest. Close walking distance to Barrio 2 (Eagle's Nest, Shangrila Coffee, Starry Mountain). Neighbors to Casa Zapote. 10 minute walk down to the Center of San Marcos. Very private location, in a small residential neighborhood. Primarily garden and valley views. Limited lake and Volcano views from the rooftop. Foot path for walking only! :) Foot path for walking only! :) There are several options to park your car in town, let me know if you would like help locating one.
