Our house is located along the beautiful Camino Antiguo in Marfil which follows the river and used to be the original route into Guanajuato. As a result, the houses along Camino Antiguo are larger with mature trees and gardens, and constant reminders of the old haciendas which used to process the silver. We love this area for its proximity to the center, only 3 miles, so a short cab or bus drive away, whilst still having all amenities nearby and being wonderfully peaceful and relaxing. Our house is set in a large garden with large pepper trees and a grassy area. The garden is completely enclosed, with a parking space for one car inside. The house has a very airy feel with large windows looking out to the garden. There are intimate spaces too to be able to work, read or relax. If you are staying at our house chances are we are not in town. We have permanent staff who take care of the house plus a property manager who can assist with any issues. Our house is located just minutes from the high street where there is a fabulous butcher shop, local bakery, and grocers. There is also a great rotisserie chicken seller and the best goat birria in town. Within walking distance is Trattoria Terraza which is one of the best restaurants in town and also nearby at Los Santos is a great Italian restaurant and another which has great live music Friday through Sunday. There is also a lovely gelato shop and, just opened a falafel restaurant. The Gene Byron Museo is a short walk to the other side of the river where there is yet another great breakfast/lunch restaurant and concerts every Sunday at 1pm. Marfil is just 3 miles from the center so a $60 pesos cab ride will get you into town. You can hail one on the high street or for 10 pesos more order one to the house. There are various buses that run from the high street to different locations in town as well. They cost 5 pesos. To get them out of town I usually get on in front of the HSBC bank in Plaza La Paz. Look for Marfil on the front of the bus. Get off at the Birriria La Tafoya. Being on the old road means you can actually walk into town if you wish. It takes about 40 minutes and follows the river and then you have to cross near the Frog Park and wind your way toward the Mercado.
