About: We call our apartment Juarez52/601. Located in the beautiful Carso Alameda building (built by Carlos Slim), we are located in Mexico City's Historic Core. If Mexico City has a heart, this apartment is in the right ventricle with an expansive view of the left one. Extremely accessible by public transportation if you want it. However, you will never be wanting for a quick taxi, Uber or Didi which are plentiful right in front of the building. Nearby: We are only a few minutes by car to Avenida Reforma, Colonia Roma, Polanco, Little Polanco and many other business and cultural centers in Mexico City. You will be within walking distance to some of Mexico's must-visit attractions: Walk to Palacio de Bellas Artes (across the street). Visit the iconic Juarez Memorial which is also across the street and can be viewed from the HUGE CORNER windows. Stroll through Alameda Park and eat at one of its restaurants. Walk on pedestrian-only Madero Avenue to arrive at Zocalo (15 min walk) where you can visit Templo Mayor, Mexico City's cathedral, National Palace, and endless museums and restaurants. Around the corner (literally) from Juarez52/601 you will find yourself in the heart of the newly restored Chinatown with great restaurants and constant activity. The museum of tolerance is our neighbor (20 meters away). For a bird's eye view of the entire city, walk 2 minutes to Torre Latinoamericana which is one of Mexico City's tallest buildings and home to a 360-degree view observation deck. Keep walking past Torre Latinoamericana (15 min) and arrive at Zocalo square where you will find breathtaking colonial architecture as well as the Aztec's main ritual temple (Templo Mayor). Walk 15 min in the opposite direction and find yourself in Monumento a la Revolucion which offers you an observation deck, cafe, bookstore, and museum. Whatever is not within walking distance is a short subway or uber ride away. The 1695 acres that make up Chapultepec Park, its zoo, museums, castle, restaurants, and walkways are only one short uber or taxi ride away. Theme: Juarez52/601 is also a homage to Oaxaca which is the birthplace of its name bearer (Mexican President and Abraham Lincoln contemporary Benito Juarez). All the artwork in it has been carefully selected and brought directly from Oaxaca and has been produced by Oaxacan hands. Our Sony ultra HD tv and surround sound system along with HBO and HD channels and lightning-fast fiber optic internet access will keep you entertained during your stay. A good size open floor kitchen and breakfast counter will keep you fed. Behind our building and parallel to Juarez runs Avenida Independencia. (Avenida Juarez and Independencia are both one way streets). Traffic on Juarez runs west to east. The apartment is extremely accessible by public transportation we have two subway lines right in front. Bellas Artes station (or line 2) and Hidalgo station (or line 2 and 3). Both of the entrances to these stations are located in opposite sides of Alameda park which is directly in front of the building. (Google Search: Mexico City Subway System) -Right in front of our building is Hemiciclo a Juarez (Juarez Memorial) which can actually be viewed fully from the apartment. The monument has 24/7 security officers guarding it. (Google Search: Hemiciclo a Juarez) - Next to our building is the Museum of Tolerance. Self-guided tours are $80 pesos and guided tours are $100 pesos (about 4 and 5 US dollars respectively). Museum is closed on Monday. Hours are: Tue-Fri 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sat-Sun 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Google Search: Museum of Tolerance Mexico City) - On the east end off Alameda park (but very close still to the apartment) is Palacio de Bellas Artes which is the Palace of Fine Arts. You can catch world class performances here (purchase tickets on ticketmaster). Guided tours of the Palace are Tue-Fri at 1:00 and 1:30 (space permitting). (Google Search: Palacio de Bellas Artes) -Garibaldi Plaza (that's the plaza where all the Mariachis are) is only a few blocks away. While there, drink a few cerbezas at the HISTORIC Salon Tenampa (google it). Also at Plaza Garibaldi you can visit the Tequila and Mezcal museum (MUTEM) which has a guided tour, a restaurant, a tasting bar and a Terraza with a nice view of the entire plaza. (Google Search: Plaza Garibaldi Mexico City, MUTEM Mexico City, Salon Tenampa Garibaldi). - If you exit the building, turn right you will see the very tall Torre Latinoamericana (it has a huge clock on top). Visit its restaurant for drinks or dinner and take in the view. You can also pay the fee for access to the observation deck $110 pesos per adult (about 6 US dollar). (Google Search: Torre Latinoamericana). Chinatown is around the corner from our apartment. It has been newly restored and you will find great restaurants. Exit the building, look right (towards Torre Latinoamericana), walk to the next street and turn right....you can't miss the Chinese style entrance. While in Chinatown visit one of its many restaurants and make sure you have a tequila at La Cantina de Tio Pepe which is in the corner of Indepenencia and Dolores. (Google Search: Barrio Chino Mexicano). -Put on your walking shoes, exit the building, look east and begin walking. Walk straight past Torre Latinoamericana and find yourself in pedestrian-only Madero street. Pay attention and look for endless bars and restaurants. A VERY OLD but beautiful church (which is seriously tilted) is a great spot for pictures. You will also find a few museums and the very famous (Sanborns de los Azulejos). (Google searches: Madero street Mexico City, Casa de los Azulejos Mexico City) If you continue walking straight east on Madero, You will arrive at the impressive Zocalo square. National Palace (Mexico's President former residence) is also there as well as Mexico's cathedral. However, the crown jewel of Zocalo is "Templo Mayor". Templo Mayor is the Aztecs main temple before the Spanish arrived and built over it. Today, you can still walk through temple mayor (small admission fee) or view it for free from the pedestrian viewing walkway recently built. These are only some of the very many attractions that are within walking distance of Juarez52/601 Plenty of options! Taxis, Uber and Didi are always available right in front of our building and the hop on and hop off tourist bus (two different companies) stop right in front of our building. You can also rent a bike (credit card required) from one of the street stalls and use the multiple bike-only lanes throughout the city. On Sunday, Juarez is usually closed to car traffic and it surrenders itself to bikers, walkers, runners and in-line skaters! You can also walk to a lot of the cultural attractions as we are close to everything! Two subway lines connect you with virtually 90 percent of the city.
