Each room of the house is oriented to maximize these sweeping vistas, second to none of St. John. Across Dreekets Bay from the house lies the untouched landscape of Virgin Islands National Park. The front of each pavilion is a glazed rollup door, allowing the entire wall to open up to tropical breezes and the view. Just 110' below the house down a set of stairs and a private switchback trail, the secluded beach provides a perfect spot for sunbathing, snorkeling, or pure relaxation. Located on the pristine east end of St. John, Dreekets Bay is known among locals for snorkeling.. Reached by a scenic drive through the National Park along paved roads from Cruz Bay, Every room in The Retreat features breathtaking views: stand in the kitchen and watch fish swim through crystal-clear aquamarine waters or relax in bed while looking out across the bay to the island of Tortola. Inside, each room is tastefully furnished with slate floors, vaulted ceilings, and modern amenities. The Retreat consists of three pavilions centered around a private garden courtyard, on a hillside above beautiful Dreekets Bay on the secluded east end of St. John, USVI. A 40' lap pool runs the length of the courtyard. Comfortable lounge chairs on the deck around the pool create an ideal spot for private sunbathing. A large Jacuzzi surrounded by tropical landscaping provides the perfect spot to unwind. The central pavilion contains the living room, dining area and kitchen, while the two side pavilions each contain a separate bedroom suite. The bedroom suite has a closet, bathroom with an Incinolet electronic incinerating hygienic toilet) balcony, and a completely private slate-lined outdoor shower with a view of the sea. The bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed, ceiling fan, and air-conditioning. A sleeping loft is tucked into the roof rafters of the bedroom pavilion to accommodate kids or extra guests. Each pavilion, while on the same level as the courtyard and living room, is completely private from the rest of the Retreat. Because of its location, the beach at Dreekets Bay remains unspoiled by crowds and pollution, providing an unsurpassed setting for sunbathing, snorkeling and diving. Just offshore, waters teem with waving anemones, soft-corals, and multi-hued hard corals that shelter brilliant fish of all shapes and sizes. Dolphins, sea turtles, lobster, black corals, and even rare Elkhorn corals are often spotted here. Other amenities at The Retreat include: 40' lap pool, ceiling fans in all rooms, surround-sound stereo, fine linens for bed and bath, "memory foam" mattresses, outdoor beach shower next to beach trail, beach towels, chairs, and picnic coolers, and automatic roll-down insect screens. The Retreat has transitioning to the use of eco-friendly electric incinerating toilets, which do not consume precious water (a scarce resource on St. John) or produce polluting waste. Our on-island managers will instruct you in the simple use of this innovative and highly sanitary system upon your arrival. They will also instruct you in the use of other electronic features that make The Retreat unique. Daily maid services, as well as full or partial catering, are available upon request (with additional fee). Our on island managers will arrange to meet you upon your arrival in St. John, take you to your rental car, help you shop for groceries if you wish, and guide you to The Retreat. They also provide concierge services such as helping to arrange for catering, provisioning, massages and any other services you may desire to make your stay with us more enjoyable. We recommend renting an all wheel, or four wheel drive vehicle. PLEASE READ ALL of the rental polices and information below. They form part of your rental agreement. RATES depend upon the number of guests staying with us and the number of beds used. Base rates are for 2 guests using one bed only. VILLA RENTAL RATES ARE BASED ON TWO PERSONS PER BED. While the entire property will be for your exclusive use, no other guests or owners present, the number of beds available for use is limited (determined) by the number of guests for whom rent has been paid. During HIGH SEASON from 20 December to 26 April, we require reservations of a MINIMUM OF 7 nights, 10 nights during the holidays, except in the event that we have unbooked nights between the longer reservations. However, we will accept bookings year round for FEWER NIGHTS when available, at our full 10 person rate which is $1117.00/night. From 1 May to Thanksgiving, Low Season, the minimum rental is usually 5 nights, but we will accept 4 nights if we have slots to fill or you are willing to pay a higher rate. We require that our liability waiver be notarized and signed by all guests staying with us. Once a reservation has been confirmed, we will email to your direct email address, the document that needs to be notarized, signed and returned to us prior to arrival. The Retreat is located on a very small tropical island. Our on island managers provide concierge services to help to arrange for day sails, kayak adventures, horseback riding, catering, massages and other services you may desire to make your stay with us enjoyable. They will also instruct you in the proper use of the electronic features of The Retreat including electronic roll down screens, overhead doors and non-polluting toiltes. All of their instructions must be followed to avoid damage. Our on-island managers are to be treated like ship or aircraft Captains. If they determine that guests need to leave The Retreat for their own safety or that of the property, guests must comply and vacate the premises within 24 hours of receiving notice of this decision. The managers may also, at their sole discretion, implement any safety procedures necessary to protect the property from damage at any time, such as to prepare for a hurricane or mitigate the impact of a maintenance issue. Our on-island managers do everything within their power to make the stay of each and every guest perfect, and above all else to ensure their safety. They can only continue to do so if their decisions about the necessity of protecting and/or vacating the property, which are based on decades of experience on St. John and in-depth knowledge of The Retreat itself, are respected and implemented. The property itself, is true waterfront, with the sparkling turquoise sea at its edge. It is remote, secluded, and serene sporting abundant tropical flora and fauna on land and under the sea. Please be aware that in this remote location electricity suffers occasional disruption, services take time or are unavailable, and there are some stinging insects/arachnids, stinging sea animals, small reptiles, land crustaceans and small mammals on the property.
