Shackleford Creek Mountain House is a special place where we join family and friends to explore the mountains, lakes, rivers and trails that are in the Cooper Landing area. We are situated a mile from the town center where multiple fish and river guides base their operations. Fishing, hiking and mountain biking trails are all within minutes of the house. The design of the house is open and well suited for couples and families with kids older than three. Shackleford Creek Mountain House is "cool", comfortable, clean, cozy, quiet and we find it to be the perfect place to base your Alaskan adventures from. We are a mile from the town of Cooper landing and just minutes from both Kenai Lake & Upper Kenai River, guide operations, fishing, hiking & mountain biking trails, restaurants and soul soothing solitude. The entire house is open for guests. On the grounds of the property are several outer structures, Guests will have access to the "gear shed" where they can safely store their gear ie... fishing rods, waders, bikes. There is also an extra refrigerator and chest freezer for storing fish while you are with us. The wood shed is always loaded with wood and is there for guests to access for burning in the wood stove only. ****NO OUTSIDE FIRES **** My wife and I have lived in Alaska for 25+ years spending much of that time outside exploring. We are more than happy to help direct you to the best guides, trails, fishing holes, restaurants, etc... to make your stay memorable and safe. Let us know how we can help you plan your Alaskan adventure. Cooper Landing is a very small community situated at the confluence of Kenai Lake and Upper Kenai River. It is two hours south of Anchorage, and 45 min to 1 hour North of the town of Kenai. There are multiple restaurants, fishing and tour guide operations, a post office, gas station and a liqueur store. There is a small grocery store but very limited in its offerings. It is suggested that you buy your groceries in Anchorage before heading down. If your visiting us in the winter months or shoulder seasons of May and October be prepared for very few services to be open and operational. It is a wonderfully quiet time to be in Cooper Landing but just be aware that only a handful of services will be available. Ask us for details upon booking. You will need a vehicle to access most of the regional recreational activities. There is a taxi service in Cooper Landing should you need to get back to your car after floating the river. This is bear country and as is noted in our guide books Always be "BEAR AWARE". Keep all trash in the designated bins inside the main house or gear shed. Property Manager CLVR removes trash from premises every other day. Do not clean fish on site, do not leave fishy smelling gear outside. Always wash off your fishing gear and keep them in the the gear shed. Simple steps of keeping your gear clean and trash inside will insure you do not have unwanted visitors.
