Rustic upstairs studio in a 17th c. old bldg. Its colonial style and many plants keep the heat off during the hottest months making the room a bit dark- but you'll have a sunny terrace. Culture, food, shops within walking distance. Nothing like staying in a centric place and be able to stay out late in a very safe zone! 60Mbps internet Two dogs and a cat live in the property. Medical offices at the front of the house. Please read our house rules before booking. Not fit for babies/children BR with a queen size bed + linen (fresh towels & sheets provided once per week); VERY low ceiling loft attached- as seen in the picture- perfect for yoga and meditation; dining balcony/terrace; small low ceiling bathroom; tiny kitchenette with a gas range, mini-fridge, microwave, pots, pans, and basic cookware. You may come and go any time of day and night using your own set of keys. Just ask what, where, when, how to find things and get to places, and I will gladly direct you in the right direction. If for any reason I am not around, I am reachable most of the time through WhatsApp. The house is located in the "Barrio de la Merced" (La Merced parish neighborhood), one of the oldest in the city. Although inside the old city perimeter, itʼs still a residential area where 3 to 5 generations of families have lived and known each other very well. Aside from the main central market, there is also a fresh produce and meat market, with excellent traditional dishes to eat right there (Mercado de la Merced), and "Pochote", a wonderful eat-in or take-out organic market very close by. Bakery and grocery store at 2 blocks, a taco place on the same block; take-out food, laundry, dairy products, dry-cleaning, gas station, bookstore, pharmacies, restaurants, bars, everything can be found just a couple blocks from home!!! The house sits at the corner of a main urban bus route (single ride= 8 pesos) Taxis for in-the-city rides cost between 50 and 70 pesos. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING Dear guest(s): Thanks so much for considering my Airbnb place for you to stay, a place that is very special for us because our family has lived in it for four generations (my great-grandparents, my grandparents, my mother and her siblings, and now myself with my son). As you can imagine, our history is tied to and is part of this old building. Although it was divided in five parts (among my grandparents’ five children), and each one has done with it different things (two decided to rent their parts to medical offices; one sold his part; my mom lives in hers, and her sister, my aunt inherited hers to me -where I live -and rent to you-), we all have tried to keep it well and alive because we love it: it contains our personal and collective memories. But I want you to know what to expect when you rent with us: * Our home is more or less 400 years old. Bathrooms did not exist when it was built, so the ones we have now are tiny because they had to fit in spaces not planned for them. * The rooms are dark because the Spanish colonial style placed doors and windows facing to interior corridors and patios, preserving a sense of family intimacy, and keeping the heat off. * The ceilings are low because the original ones fell during the earthquakes of 1931, and they reconstructed them lower. Many people have stayed with us, and they haven't had a problem with this (plus, it is stated and seen in the pictures), but for the ones who are not too adaptable or are very tall, this might not be a good match. * As I stated before, my mom, my son Carlos and I live full time in this property. However, your studio is in a semi-isolated part of the house ensuring your privacy. * Occasionally – overall, on weekends- you will see family and/or friend gatherings in the corridors. Do not worry, we respect the quiet hours (10 pm to 7 am). * My Airbnbs allow us to keep living in this beautiful, ancestral house. As you will see when you are here, many colonial houses are falling apart in the historical city center because not many people wish to care for old buildings, and prefer to rent them for businesses or let them collapse to build a new space or even use them as parking lots. Therefore, I am very thankful for renting with us, supporting the preservation of our home.
