Here Comes the Sun is just a short drive from Coral Bay shops, restaurants and bars. It's an island escape a little off the beaten path yet conveniently located to some of the best beaches and trails St. John offers. Its hillside perch allows breezes, magnificent sunrises and ocean views of the East End and BVIs. Relax on the deck, sip a cocktail, and listen to sounds from the bordering jungle. (A 2-door 4WD is required.) The cottage offers comforts of home but with a vacation/island vibe to feel "away from it all." Sunrises can be spectacular; the stars at night fill the sky. It's peaceful, offers solitude (there are neighboring cottages, but the space itself is quite private), and has everything needed: ocean views, well-equipped kitchen, AC, good-sized deck, 2 bathrooms, entertainment (games, movies, binoculars, music) and beach gear. Bedroom (king bed) is downstairs from main house and private; living room has a sleeper sofa with queen mattress. Cottage can accommodate 3 people (additional fees apply), but it may feel a little cramped. The cottage provides guests with a variety of beach gear, including beach chairs, a beach umbrella, beach towels, and cooler with ice packs. We recommend renting snorkel gear and fins from either Beach Bum in Cruz Bay or Crabby's Watersports in Coral Bay. The yard invites fun critters (deer, iguanas, tortoises, frogs) and there are starfruit, banana, and papaya trees to remind you that you're on island time. Single-standalone home; guests have full, private access inside and outside. Property owners Sam and Kim are available via messaging through Airbnb. Sometimes we might be on island and in the neighboring cottage, which then feel free to knock on the door. :) The neighborhood has other homes (mostly vacation rentals), but it's a very quiet, peaceful hillside, which is why we request quiet after 10 p.m. You'll need to rent a 4WD (preferably 2-door) for navigating the island and parking at the cottage. Coral Bay is a little off the beaten path and the cottage is up a hill. Guests are responsible for their travel to/from Coral Bay. Note that public transportation is infrequent, taxis don't operate on this part of the island, and there's no Uber/Lyft. It's also not a walk/bike friendly island. Most of St. John is dirt roads--part of the island's adventure/charm--so to get around and explore, you'll have a much better vacation with a 4WD. The road up to the cottage is a switchback mix of dirt and pavement. It begins short and steep (paved), but then levels to a moderate up hill. Compared to the rest of St. John it's an "average" road; compared to U.S. mainland roads, it can be bumpy. The cottage provides paved parking for 1 car. See a video of the drive from the cottage down the hill on You Tube, video title is Drive Down Calabash Road to Coral Bay, Route 107, St John USVI. --A 4WD is required, preferably 2-door. See "Location" and click on "More about the location" for details plus YouTube video of drive from cottage down the hill. --The bedroom is accessible via exterior stairs (about 10, fairly gentle grade). It's a common layout on island, and we provide flashlights, umbrellas plus there are solar lights. --The property has a smaller, neighbor cottage (same property owner and managers). --For more than 2-3 people, the neighbor cottage may be available for rent. Email to inquire. --Although we provide "bathroom essentials" (toilet paper) and "beach essentials," please note AirBnB uses a default list that cannot be edited. Snorkel gear and bath soap are not officially provided. Guests sometimes leave snorkel gear, half-used shampoos, bath gel, sunscreen, etc. but please plan to pack/purchase your own toiletries. Renting snorkel gear is encouraged to ensure clean, sterilized gear that fits; rental shops are listed in the description and in documents sent to you upon booking.
