(NOTE: there is a 2nd room available if you need more room/privacy) Welcome to our quiet, rural homestead. You may or may not meet Danika, who's often away, but you'll definitely meet some of the other residents of the land. Along with shared space, the Tropical Office is one of two rooms available (see Kaila Aloha (Zen Den) posting). This is a clean, freshly painted room with a single bed, work desk, and ample closet space. (there are 2 mattresses, 1 may be used on the floor w/permission) We live on two acres, the front one fenced, surrounded by greenery and a horse pasture on one side. We have two goats, 8 chickens, and a dog. We are active - we get up early to take care of our animals' needs - yet quiet and respectful. You will fall asleep to the koki frogs and wake up to the birds singing. It's a relaxing place to work away from home. Kaila Aloha is situated in rain forest country, so, it often rains. But that just means more rainbows. We do our best to keep things clean and dry for your convenience and ask for your help to do so, too. Living in this environment has special guidelines, especially around food and wet items. We ask you eat only in the dining area or outside and that you compost food scraps. It's also important to hang wet items (there is a laundry line). This will make everyone's visit more pleasant by avoiding mold and hungry critters. You will have exclusive access to your room (The Tropical Office) and shared access to the guest bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, and wrap around lanai. You are also welcome to explore the land and take photos, just refrain from going in the back of the property until after 8 AM as the caretakers, Ari and Brian, live in the back ohana (family cottage). NOTE: If you'd like to meet the animals, send us a message and we'll set up a convenient time. If Danika is home she is happy to answer any questions and help with your stay. She does work from home, however, so when her door is closed you may send a message through Air BnB and either she or Ari will get back to you as soon as they can. We live in rural Hawaii, which is a green paradise. If you love birds and flowers, you'll be in the right place. Some roads are paved, some aren't. Sometimes animals get loose. If you simply take your time while driving in our neighborhood you'll be just fine. We are about 30 minutes from Hilo Airport, 18 minutes from "downtown" Kea'au, and 12 minutes from Pahoa village. The private driveway is accessed through an automatic gate. You will have a dedicated parking space next to the house. You will need a private vehicle to get back and forth to amenities. We are minutes away from a general store as well as a fresh fruit & veggie stand. There is a local Sunday farmer's market and we're 10 minutes from a new shopping complex in Pahoa (supermarket, coffee shop, etc). There is bus service between Pahoa, Kea'au, and Hilo (Route 40) that comes hourly along the highway and a Pahoa-Kea'au bus (Route 402) that comes ever 2 hours to the local community center. Search online for the "Hele-On Bus" and click the East Hawaii information. We live down a dirt road that can get potholed when it rains. You do not need a 4WD vehicle (Danika drives a Kia Soul), just drive slow and watch for animals. (That said, a 4WD vehicle will give you access to parts of the island you can't access without). For those with mobility concerns, our home is on one floor, but there are seven steps leading up to the house.
