Gamboa, casa 126 Our home was built in 1935, for American engineers during the construction of the Canal. We recently restored it, adding multiple updates to provide a modern retreat, but without breaking the aesthetics of the surrounding natural environment. TOUCAN is the name of one of our two apartments, like the birds that live and fly in our neighbourhood. The apartment consists of one bedroom and large living room with a dining area, containing two sofa beds. Located on ground floor, it has a total area of 51 square meters (549 square feet) and direct access to a shared 60 square meter (646 square feet) terrace reaching out into our lush tropical garden where you will find deck chairs for a chilled bird watching session. The apartment is equipped with a complete kitchen, private bathroom and AC Unit. Gamboa is a nature paradise, surrounded by primary tropical forests and the Panama Canal. You wont have enough time to explore the surrounding National Park, spot wildlife, and enjoy adventurous boat rides on the Panama Canal. The city´s Nightlife is just 35 minutes away by taxi. Boat Rides: Gamboa is the gateway to the wilderness of the Panama Canal and Chagres river. There cannot be a bigger contrast than the giant ships crossing and the quietness of the surrounding forests. From the comfort of your boat, you can spot crocodiles, agouties, multiple different monkey species, sloths, and a large variety of birds. Hiking trails: Pipeline Road: World famous birding spot and one of the best Eco trails in Central America. 17 km of easy going trail leads you deep into the rainforest. The list of bird species exceeds 400. Chance to see different monkeys, Agouties, Coaties, Capybaras, Peccaries, Sloths, Anteaters, Caimans and of course the many birds. Puddle Trail (El Charco): 7km’s before the entrance to Gamboa. This brief trail is all about fun. It has a natural pool for a quick jump in. Other visitors are expected. Plantation Road: An old road converted into a trail of 4.8 km. Beautiful trail, with chances of wildlife spotting, crosses two valleys, with waterfalls, old growth forest and a section of an abandoned cocoa and rubber plantation. Camino Real de Cruces: Beautiful and adventurous jungle trail of 9.5km’s, one of the historic routes of the Panamanian Isthmus that connected the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean during the colonial era. Built around 1530. Here is where a large part of the gold the Spaniards stole from the Incas was transported though. Gamboa Resort: A 5-star hotel next to Gamboa from which guests can enjoy the view over the Chagres River. Visit the butterfly garden or take a small cableway and gaze upon the Panama Canal and surrounding rainforest. Indigenous community: At the Chagres´s River banks lives a community of Embera natives. Tour their village and see the rural homes. They also provide boat rides on their canoes through the river. Barro Colorado Island: THE JEWEL OF CONSERVATION IN Panama. A pristine and untouched 54 square km large island in the middle of the Panama Canal. Administrated and protected by Smithsonian Institute, this island hosts pristine and untouched tropical rain forest and the only group of the endangered spider monkeys in central Panama. This island is one of the most important research areas of Smithsonian Institute scientists. The boat departs from a dock situated on the outskirts of Gamboa. Reservations are mandatory. Public buses connect Gamboa to Panama City in intervals of two hours. Now with the pandemic, bus schedules have changed, the last bus from Albrook to Gamboa leaves at 2:00 p.m. It is advisable to arrive at the station or the bus stop 10 minutes in advance. Taxis fares are around $20 to and from the Albrook area and Gamboa. Albrook is in Panama City and is the main transport terminal and subway station. You can also find a large shopping mall there. On a good day, locals of Gamboa will offer you a ride to town!
