Small farm with wonderful view of Smith Rock area; short backroad drive to the park. Rustic farm deck and yard. Outdoor fire options and animals. Ideal for 1-2 people, though additional guests welcome! See info under "The Space" and "Other details to note." Hosts usually also on site. Living and dining only "shared" as we tend the wood stove in winter, or pass through to kitchen etc; we use bonus space upstairs so you'll have living/dining as your use only. 2.5m to Terrebonne, 4 m to Redmond. We are a small farm of 4 acres, although the position of the farm in relation to other properties around us makes it feel much larger! It is 2.7 mi via quiet back roads to Smith Rock State Park. The house is a unique country home. Guest bath is just around the corner from guest bedroom, and is not shared with anyone else (see photo showing guest bath, bedroom, and outside access door next to the guest bedroom). Those two rooms were completely redecorated in 2018. If your group includes 4 adults or older children wanting individual sleeping options, 2-3 of those would be in the living room; family with young children usually all sleep in bedroom (more info under "other details"). The main heat source is the wood burning stove between dining and living room, which hosts will tend to as needed (unless you are familiar with wood heat and prefer to do it yourself). Electric wall heater in bedroom. In summer, a box fan is available for the bedroom, and most of the time opening the windows at night is enough for fresh air. Same goes for main living area. Please note: TV with antenna channels and Roku is in living room. No microwave in kitchen. (see photos) Dining/living room are noted as "shared" only because we need to pass through there occasionally or tend the wood stove in cool weather; we don't spend time in those spaces while we have guests, except for meal prep in the kitchen (worked around your schedule). The main living area of the home, outside decks, yards and garden areas. We only ask that guests don't go in pens or stalls with the animals until we have shared with you which ones are okay. Children must be supervised. As long-time residents we are happy to help out with information about the area. We love sharing our farm with others, and the level of interaction regarding this depends on your preferences during your stay. Although the separate host bedroom/bath is downstairs, we have upstairs space or plenty to do outside while guests are around, will work around your schedule for time in the kitchen, and our presence in the “shared” living/dining room is only as needed to pass through or tend the wood stove during cold weather. You are welcome in our space! We are surrounded by farms of all sizes in a quiet country setting near Smith Rock State Park, but not too far from town with plenty of local coffee shops, restaurants, local breweries and pubs. Beautiful central Oregon in general offers a wide variety of activities year round, from deserts to forests and everything in between. Favorite local eateries personally are One Street Down Cafe (breakfast, coffee, baked goods, and lunch daily 7am-2 pm), Christie's Kitchen (7-2, closed Mondays), Baldy's BBQ (11-8, closed Mondays), Madeline's Grill and Steak House (Mexican and American) 11-10, and Redmond Burger Company (not fast but worth it!). Pappy's Pizza is good and delivers (our fav is the Mt. Bachelor). Your personal or rented vehicle is the best way to explore central Oregon. Our road is on a popular cycling route, including one of the Tour des Chutes road cycling routes. There is limited bus transportation between Bend, Redmond, and Prineville via Cascades East Transit. Family or friends may be visiting occasionally, sometimes including children. Please note: No microwave. TV is in the living room (we use a different one upstairs). Please message us if you wish to use the floor mattress, couch or Paco pad/sleeping bag, so we can have those ready for you. Sleeping options aside from the queen bed in the guest room include a 6" thick sectional full size foam folding mattress that will just fit in the room and we make up with sheets and bedding (this can also be put in the living room). Another option is sleeping bag on the couch OR Paco pad with sleeping bag and pillow (washed after every use), in the room or the living room. Some families with young children have brought their own Pack n Play and/or smaller cot. We hang out in a bonus area upstairs while we have guests, and take our meals upstairs as well, or are outside or in the garage working on chores or projects. We pass through the main living rooms at times to tend the wood stove, use the master bathroom (no plumbing upstairs), and come down at night about 10-11pm to sleep in our room. The guest bed and bath are for your use only and we will not touch them or enter during your stay; same with the outside door by the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom has window blinds that work both directions so you can see the view and still keep privacy (you know, in case the UPS guy happens to stop by with a delivery or something). In the mornings we quietly come into the kitchen to get coffee and take it back into our room or upstairs, and will communicate on your arrival about what your planned kitchen use is, if any. Coffee and tea are complimentary, although some guests prefer to bring their own...we get it! Our well water is good to drink. We are not particular about noise in or around the house (aside from the 11-7 quietish hours). We hope that you will relax and enjoy the setting and your stay!
