Welcome to FAUNA Montevideo! FAUNA is a boutique accommodation, located in the heritage quarter of the city within a 1927 historic building we have recently renovated. We have combined architectural elements from Uruguay's Golden Era with the comforts of contemporary lodging. FAUNA is eclectic and fun; we have introduced a 'new vintage' aesthetic, combining furnishings from different eras, with contemporary art and other unique pieces created by us. We are a creative duo (architect / designer) passionate about design. We love to combine elements and create objects that will define spaces that 'feel good'. At FAUNA, we have meticulously handpicked every piece, a result of several years of selecting, restoring and collecting. Good taste and warmth characterize our work and is what we have aimed to achieve at FAUNA. We have created a space where fine design and details abound all around. Mid Century furnishings, Art Deco treasures and other miscellaneous antiques coexist with contemporary art and several custom made pieces to form an eclectic mix that make this accommodation so unique. We have updated the buildings facilities with some of the latest hardware. Carrara marble stairways and colored vitreaux coexist with super fast WiFi hot spots and Inverter Technology Air Conditioning, original plaster crown moldings and mosaic tiled floors are side to side with Smart TV Led Screens and digital keypads for opening doors. We supply ourselves with hot water through a bio mass wood pellet boiler located on the roof, the very best in energy efficiency. Every one of our rooms and lamps is lit by LED lights, ideal lighting for enhancing the hundred year old American pine wood floors. This boutique accommodation can be rented as ten individual suites or as a single property hosting up to twenty people at a time – perfect for retreats, reunions, holidays and celebrations. Each room has its own unique charm! Room 102 is equipped with a queen sized bed (160 x 200) crowned by an antique bespoke 'Queen Anne' headboard sided by 3 different contemporary style night stands. The desk area holds a fridge and a small safety box to keep valuables and personal items. You will also find a set of cups and glasses together with an electric jug for a drink or for some midnight tea. A wall mounted 43¨Smart TV Led Screen equipped with our NETFLIX account is installed on the wall, no need to miss up on new episodes of your favorite series. The closet area is an open type sleek design with shelves and hanging area. The hot / cold inverter type air conditioning is energy efficient and all of the lighting is LED. The original American pine wood floors have been completely renovated, as well as the original plaster molding . The sink countertop is Carrara marble, while the wooden blinds above allow you to dim the outside light. The bathroom and all of the facilities are brand new. This space is eclecticism at its finest! Besides making use of their private suites, guests will be able to enjoy shared areas in FAUNA. We have put together a co-living type lobby with different spaces for different uses. Whether you are here on vacations or for work, we offer you to use our lobby in whichever way suits you best. There will always be a drink available in our 'petite bar´ as well as a selection of fresh fruit on the table. We personally manage our property and work closely with our guests to ensure that all your needs are met. Even though we are not permanently on site we will be available to you 24 hours through texting, W-app or through this site. We will be happy to reply to all your questions, or suggest whichever activity or restaurant you wish to explore. All of our doors have coded numeric key pads which can be opened either by your personal magnetic entry card or by your personal code. This conveniently allows you to arrive at your convenience, without the need to coordinate picking up keys. Fauna is a small oasis strategically located on the main pedestrian strip of the Old City and just a few feet away from the main points of interest in the city. Ciudad Vieja is the heritage quarter of Montevideo, boasting historical buildings and fine examples of several types and mixes of architecture. You will find a very rich variety of renovated historic buildings, some which have been fantastically restored, while others stand in complete decay. The place is unique, not only noted for its museums and renowned buildings but also for the great diversity of its people and the variety in the cultural landscape that can be encountered. The workers from the 'feria' (bi-weekly food street market) mix up with dressed up office workers and bankers strolling by, cruise ship tourists wonder around snapping photos while the drums from the 'Candombe' musicians march down the strip, encountering the neighborhoods inhabitants and the usual characters of the 'barrio'. The photo ops are endless! Besides the huge cultural variety, there are huge amounts of options for food. Some well known contemporary local chefs have opened shop in Ciudad Vieja, while many of the towns main 'parrilladas' (steakhouses) work in the traditional 'Mercado del Puerto', new specialty coffee stores together and modern or traditional pastries. All can be found within a few blocks from FAUNA. The best way to move around the neighborhood is by foot. We stand on a pedestrian street and just a block away, you will find one of the main bus stops where buses are available to most other parts of town. An easy alternative we recommend is UBER. For those wanting to explore beyond Ciudad Vieja, we recommend a walk down the 'Rambla´ boardwalk, just 3 blocks away. A pleasant 30 minute stroll lining the Rio de la Plata, will take you to Playa Ramírez. Those wanting to exercise, can rent a bicycle to pedal the 20 km down the Rambla all the way to Carrasco and back, this will show you most of the city's charming coastline.
