Getaway from the hustle & bustle of city life & enter a rejuvenating Hawaiian vacation retreat. Bright & airy, four story, 5 lanai, 2 kitchen, custom authentic Hawaiian-vibe home situated in a quaint & friendly coastal community in romantic, old Hawaii. Awake to the soothing sounds of the ocean. Stroll to the world famous Kehena Black Sand Beach. A quick drive to Kaimu Korner Store & Uncle Robert's. Adventure to the volcano flows, forest reserves or Pahoa for dinner. The perfect place to truly getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life and experience a rejuvenating Hawaiian vacation retreat with your significant other, family or friends. Nestled in romantic, old Hawaii in the quaint and friendly coastal community of Kehena Beach Estates, within walking distance to the exotic, clothing-optional black sand beach you will learn the meaning of relaxation. Awake to the soothing sounds of the ocean, nature’s music night and day. This custom home was designed to take advantage of the prevailing trade winds, which provides comfortable temperatures throughout the day and evening all year round. The open floor plan and many windows frame the tropical treetop views and even slices of ocean views pop out between the trees from the upper lanais. Mature tropical landscaping grows all around with specimen bamboo, plumeria, avocado, palms, banana, citrus and ginger - please feel free to enjoy some fresh produce from the garden! Environmentalists will appreciate the water catchment system and solar water heating that service the entire property. For the techies out there, we provide desks and chairs, WIFI, Roku on each floor's TV for streaming video like Netflix or Amazon and the bonus USB plugs throughout. The Hawaiian style layout and separate entrances allow for privacy or group entertaining for families and friends alike. Meander through the indoor and outdoor spaces including two separate living areas, lounge in a hammock on either of the two main lanais, enjoy a backyard shower on the lower most lanai, gaze over the front yard on the Juliette balcony in the honeymoon suite or climb the spiral staircase to impressive 360 degree views from the stargazing upper most deck. Experience penthouse living in the upper unit featuring an open floor plan, perfect for couples, honeymooners or young families. Walk into your living room and choose to lounge on the chaise, enjoy stunning views from the papasan or kick back in the ratan recliner to watch your favourite show. Cook a gourmet meal in the well-equipped kitchen with new GE & Samsung stainless steel appliances and serve it on the lanai after opening the fully retractable screen and glass doors. Relax in the large soaking tub or rinse off in the open shower before retiring to your king-sized four poster bed with sheers billowing in the breeze after stargazing on the upper lanai. Larger groups will enjoy choosing between one of the 2 Queen bedrooms on the second level or who gets the sleeper couch. Serve up a delicious breakfast for 6 at the expansive breakfast bar. Relax in the living room with cocktails or settle in for some game or TV time. Sneak away from the group and enjoy a peaceful nap on the hammock on the covered lanai. Note: Our home has two entrances & kitchens (one on each floor). We have it available as separate listings: the entire top studio ( #KehenaBeachPenthouse ) and the entire middle 2 bedroom ( #KehenaBeachMezzanine ), and this listing is both: the entire house ( #KehenaBeachTreehouse ) . The bottom floor is a locked basement used for the catchment (water) and storage with no guest access. Access everything inside and out except the basement, which is locked storage with our limited water supply provided by a catchment (rain water) system with UV light & filtration. Please contact us via Airbnb, we are offsite. We will do our best to have someone to assist with things we cannot do from afar (like if you lock yourself out). Closer to your stay you will get a code to access the lock box. We will not be here to greet/interact with you. Kehena Beach Estates is a family friendly neighborhood. The property is a short stroll from the black sand beach & boasts access to a number of outdoor activities & unique festival like Sunday Drum Circle. Kaimu Beach Park, MacKenzie State Recreation Area, Isaac Hale Beach Park, new beaches & the 2018 lava flows are a short drive away. Uncle Robert's & Kaimu Corner Store in Kalapana are the closest Bar, Restaurant & Store. Wednesday night & Saturday morning market at Uncle's must not be missed. First the practical things: - Grocery Store/Corner Store: the closest is the Kaimu Corner Store. Next closest are Pahoa's Malama Market or Island Naturals. - Pharmacy: Pahoa Pharmacy or Longs Drugs in Pahoa. - Neighborhood Restaurant: the nearest is Uncle Robert's in Kalapana. In Pahoa town you will find Kaleo's Bar & Grill and Ning's Thai Cuisine. There are also Pizza places, Paolo's Bistro, etc. In Hilo try Hilo Bay Cafe (New American), Sombat's (Thai) or Kamana Kitchen (Indian). - Coffee Shop: Sirius Coffee Connection in Pahoa, or brew your own Kona Coffee. - Nearby Park or Green Space: Besides our Kehena Black Sand Beach there is Kaimu Beach Park, MacKenzie State Recreation Area & Isaac Hale Beach Park. - Laundromat: Suds 'n Duds Laundromat in Pahoa - Main Transportation Hub or Bus Stop: There is a bus stop on the main road but the bus doesn't really come by regularly, so we highly recommending renting a car. Now for the fun stuff: Not to brag but Hawaii (the Big Island) is the best island. It is so large you can fit all the other islands on it and still have room to spare! This means we have everything the other islands have to offer and a lot more. No wonder the rulers of Hawaii chose this as their home. Where else can you hit up 10 of the 14 climates on Earth all in one day!? Here is a very short list of just some of the things to do: - Stroll to the clothing optional Kehena Black Sand Beach and if lucky or here during the right season spot sea turtles, spinner dolphins & whales! - See the 2018 lava flow and the newest black sand beaches in the world at MacKenzie State Park. - Hike to Isaac Hale and plunge into the new warm pond behind the sand bar and black sand beach by the dock. - Hike to Pohoiki. - Have a drink or a bite to eat with the locals at Uncle Robert's. - See the newest land delta on earth with new black sand beach from the lava flowing into the ocean on a day cruise. - Visit the only zoo in a rainforest Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo. - See if you can find the sea turtles at Coconut Island, right next to Liliuokalani Park and Gardens. - Try the best Poke or buy the fresh catch of the day at Suisan Fish Market. - We have some of the best food here! Kickback on the hammock, sip on a cocktail, or soak in the sun on the lanai or pick some fruit from the yard (when in season). Slow down and unwind, you are officially on island time. Shaka brah (hang loose) you're in Hawaii! Aloha! \,,,/ Need more inspiration? We have the best guidebook to Hawaii The Big Island Revealed! We recommend a rental car. Many people hitchhike around here, though we do not advise it. - Our home has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. We follow Airbnb’s five-step enhanced cleaning process, which is based on Airbnb’s cleaning handbook that was developed in partnership with experts. We provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean and sanitize during your stay. - Luxury 1800 thread count brushed microfiber linens and 100% Turkish Cotton towels. - Fans, luggage racks, hangers, hanging shelves and extra towels and bedding in each bedroom closet. - AC upstairs. Ceiling fan on lower level. - We provide beach towels and 2 snorkels/masks, 2 coolers, umbrellas and 2 chairs for your beach, tide pool, volcano and other Hawaiian adventures. Don't forget to pack your hiking shoes! There are many great hikes to choose from around here. - We have the fastest internet available in our area, 1 gigabit fiberoptic. - AT&T and T-Mobile work here. We also have a cell phone booster for those that want to stay in touch or if you prefer you can just as easily be unplugged, as this is rural Hawaii. - International travel plug adapter on hand just in case. - Water is limited to the catchment tank on-site. Please use sparingly, especially if it does not rain during your stay. Buy drinking water. - At night, bugs are attracted to lights, so keep the doors and windows closed. We live in the tropics and have done all we can to mitigate pests, but you will see geckos, mosquitoes, beetles, ants and hear the Coqui frogs at night. - We have cans in the carport to sort your rubbish for the transfer station located down the road with a trash shoot. - The hammocks, chaise, sofa and small appliances on the lanais get exposed to the weather, which can be wet if stormy outside. Keep them covered!
