Located in one of the oldest buildings in Panama and set over 3 stories with unrivaled panoramic views over the historical Casco Viejo, the skyline of Panama City and views of the causeway, our gorgeous penthouse is the ideal space to take in the local sights, sounds, art, culture, socialize with your friends and family, or simply relax in a cozy love nest! Top speed wifi, excellent location, and fully equipped with all the home comforts, the penthouse is the perfect spot to explore Panama. Casa Marquesa de Portago is situated next to the Presidential Palace and is the oldest watchtower in Panama. Originally built by the Spanish in 1573 to watch over the seas for incoming pirates and marauders, it nearly came to a smoky end when Captain Morgan burned down the old town. Luckily, it escaped this fate and was redesigned by the talented Colombian architect Álvaro Barrera and even more recently remodeled by us! Now things are much calmer in Casco Viejo and our guests can take in the splendid views with no risk of invasion! The interior now boasts a beautifully eclectic art collection as well as wood that was recovered from the Panama Canal giving the penthouse a really authentic and unique vibe in the heart of Casco Viejo. The penthouse is the top 3 stories of this historic building so please be aware you must climb 2 stories to access. On the 1st floor of the penthouse: * PLEASE NO LOUD NOISE ON THIS FLOOR!! This is a 400 year old building and our neighbor can hear EVERYTHING! * Fully equipped open kitchen and dining area. This is a perfect space for any type of communal activity, be it coffee in the morning, cocktails before your evening out, or a full on 4 course dinner! It also is a lovely space for digital nomads to sit and work with its pleasant light and natural ventilation all day long. The kitchen is equipped with a large fridge and freezer, oven and stove, coffee maker, blender, toaster, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery for 6. This area is also home to our 2 very comfortable daybeds which are large enough for a large adult to sleep comfortably. * Full bathroom * Living room, with 3 very comfortable sofas and a library with our favorite collection of books and albums. * The master bedroom decorated in cool jungle greens with a beautifully spacious private bathroom and dressing room - the custom concrete sink was 'craned' up! On the 2nd floor: * Bedroom with 2 Twin beds that can be pushed together as a King decorated with Bohemian patterns * Communal, spacious bathroom * Pool Lounge area with hammocks, swing, armchairs, outdoor dining area, and plunge pool that can easily fit 3-4 people. Perfect for a refreshing dip and to enjoy the tropical sky and the thrilling Casco Viejo vibe. *Pool area bathroom with shower On the 3rd floor: * The pirate lookout / princess tower bedroom! located in the tower of the building, with 3 windows, you can sleep in one of the oldest rooms in all of Panama and see the same sights they saw in the 1500s (hopefully without pirates)! There is nothing in Panama that compares to the morning views from this room! * a beautiful outdoor 8 person seating area with spectacular views of the surroundings. The entire penthouse except for one small cupboard is available for you and your group to explore and enjoy! Casco Viejo (Spanish for Old Quarter) is the old town of Panama and is considered to be the fashionable heart of Panama City. The Penthouse is surrounded by restaurants, cafes, boutique stores, galleries and museums galore all in walking distance. The area has a rich history and is also known as Casco Antiguo or San Felipe. Completed and settled in 1673, it was built following the near-total destruction of the original Panamá city (Panamá Viejo) in 1671 when the latter was attacked by pirates. It was designated a World Heritage Site in 1997. Our building, Casa Marques de Portago, is situated next to the Presidential Palace and is the oldest watchtower in Panama. The Annex (which sleeps up to 4) is located on the first floor and The Penthouse (which sleeps up to 8) is the top 3 floors (please message us for details on renting both The Annex and The Penthouse together). The ground floor is home to Sense Gastrobar. The Annex is at the entrance of the beautiful old center of the city, Casco Viejo, close to the new center, walking distance from many bars and restaurants, great sightseeing. It's very easy to get around, there is public bus, uber and taxis, all close by, few minutes walking distance away. And the metro is about 20 minutes walk away. Our favorite driver in the city is Juan and he can be available for airport pick ups, city trips, and longer day trips out of town. It's on Cinta Costera : The Cinta Costera (meaning Coastal Beltway) is a 26-hectare (64-acre) land reclamation project in Panama City, Panama, completed in 2009 at a cost of $189 million. It extends from Paitilla to El Chorrillo. It's most recent expansion was the Cinta Costera III, which opened in 2014, along with the Maracana Stadium. The Cinta Costera Viaduct is part of Cinta Costera Phase III. Consisting of a roadway bridge and pedestrian bridge, the 2.5-kilometer-long marine viaduct encircles Panama City’s historic and governmental district of the Casco Antiguo. The viaduct surrounds the World Heritage Site-Archaeological Site of Panamá Viejo and Historic District of Panamá, as defined by the United Nations (UNESCO). Access to the penthouse is via 2 flights of stairs - there’s no elevator! We love fun and want you to have loads of it in the penthouse, but please keep parties and noisy events to a minimum. Loud music is ONLY permitted on the top deck. The penthouse is a smoke friendly household, but please keep all smoking outside on the terrace and use the ashtrays provided. We are eco-friendly people so please keep AC use to a minimum. The house benefits from natural ventilation through the day with windows and doors open. If you do use the AC, please close doors and windows in that space and please turn AC off completely before leaving the house. We know animals are part of the family and the penthouse is definitely animal friendly for small pets! However, please note that any damages from animal (or human) behavior will be charged. Please let us know before arrival of any animals coming. Stays of longer than 1 week include an additional cleaning service. Please coordinate with us which day you prefer. Guests can also pay for additional cleaning which will be paid directly to the cleaning lady. Please contact us for more details. This is a 400 year old building and sound travels! Our other guests can hear every single step on the stairway, so please, please, please be quiet entering and leaving the property!!
